The Diagnostic Center, Northern California (DCN) in Fremont, is accepting applications for the position of Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) Teacher Specialist. Minimum Qualifications - Minimum 10 years of experience providing special education services in public schools - Outstanding diagnostic skills in all aspects of the student assessment process (i.e., testing, parent and teacher interviewing, developing rapport with challenging students, etc.) - Prior experience in assessment and interventions serving students with a variety of disabling conditions (e.g., learning disabilities, intellectual disability, autism, severe emotional disturbance, communication disorders, physical disabilities, medically fragile, etc.) - Knowledge and experience working with students who have moderate to severe communication disorders - Knowledge and experience in assessment and interventions serving students with disabilities who are also English Language Learners - Excellent analytical and written language skills - Ability to work flexibly and cooperatively as part of a transdisciplinary assessment team and routinely complete assignments within pre-established timelines - Ability to present assessment findings and implications in a clear and sensitive manner to parents and school district personnel at post-assessment conferences - Availability to travel throughout the DCN’s catchment area (35 counties), including overnight stays as needed. Desired Qualifications - Knowledge and experience working with students on the Autism Spectrum - Knowledge of current Alternative and Augmentative Communication systems (low tech to high tech) and experience assessing, determining, and implementing appropriate AAC systems - Knowledge of federal and state laws pertaining to special education policies and procedures. - Expertise in non-biased, developmental, and play-based assessments - Ability to prepare and present trainings on a variety of assessment and intervention topics

The individual selected to fill this position will participate as a member of a transdisciplinary assessment team and work with some of California’s most complex and challenging students. Primary job duties include evaluating and diagnosing communication deficits and language-based learning disorders. In addition to providing high quality diagnostic assessment services, the SLP develops specific, practical, evidence-based interventions and strategies based on the team’s findings. In addition, the SLP will have opportunities to present in-services to professional educators and parents on topics related to language assessment and intervention at various regional and statewide educational trainings and conferences. Join the Diagnostic Center's transdisciplinary team and help make a difference for students, families and schools throughout Northern California. Diagnostic Center services are provided by a top-notch team of professionals, including school psychologists, speech/language pathologists, educational specialists, motor specialists, clinical psychologists, and developmental pediatricians. Working as a team, these professionals address the unique educational needs of Northern California's most difficult-to-serve students enrolled in special education programs.
