DEFINITION: Under the direction of the Adaptive Physical Education Teacher, to assist in the provision of adapted physical education services. Specific Duties Include: Assisting the Teacher in: • Monitor and reinforce skills and student behavior • Supervise student safety during adaptive PE activities • Provide instructional prompts • Assist teacher instruction by leading small groups • Facilitating movement and positioning • Assist in assembling and developing materials for instruction • Collecting materials and equipment needed by the teacher. • Assembling, adjusting, and maintaining equipment used in the instructional program. • Preparing the room for the activity, obtaining the required materials and equipment, the operation of the equipment, and return of all materials and equipment to storage. • Data collection on mastery of skills • Performing other duties as assigned. Essential Skills Include to the Ability to: • Carry out a specialized instructional program • Assist with instructional activities in programs under the direction of the principal • Interact effectively with students • Deal with a wide variety of personalities and situations requiring tact, judgment and poise • Take directions from others while working independently • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with teachers, students and others contacted during the course of this work • Meet physical and mental requirements for this position This Position Requires Thorough Knowledge of: • Instructional materials, curriculum content and supervising techniques; • Availability of resources; • Methods used in controlling and motivating student PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
