Employment Opportunity

 

Cabrillo College is seeking a highly motivated and student-centered Director to plan, organize, direct and integrate the Admissions and Records Depart­ment. This position is responsible for District enrollment and registration processes and the maintenance of student records; ensures accuracy and timeliness of student enrollment, attendance data and related reporting.

 

The ideal candidate will share Cabrillo's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. Cabrillo College serves approximately 11,400 students per term, of which 45.13% are LatinX, 5.26% multi-ethnic, 2.64% Asian, 1.25% African-American, 0.79% Filipino, 0.30% American Indian or Alaskan Native, and 0.18% Pacific Islander as of Fall 2018. At Cabrillo, 56.66% of students are students of color and 54.91% are economically disadvantaged. In 2006, Cabrillo College was designated a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree, and at least five (5) years of progressively responsible admissions and records experience, two (2) years of which were in a management or supervisory role OR

• Equivalent

 

Knowledge of:

Applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and California Education Code, Title V and Administrative Code provisions related to community college enrollment, admissions, registration, attendance accounting and record­keeping.

• Advanced knowledge of the operational characteristics of various student and financial recordkeeping databases and computer systems used throughout the District and application of a wide variety of student support computer applications and network software.

• Analysis and evaluation of student academic records and transcripts.

• College curriculum interpretation and application as related to transfer of credit, and degree and certificate requirements.

• Research methods and analysis techniques.

• Principles and practices of public administration, including budgeting, purchasing and maintaining public records.

• Principles and practices of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) in hiring, retention, performance and advancement.

• Principles and practices of sound business communication.

• Research methods and analysis techniques.

• Principles and practices of effective management and supervision.

• Principles and practices of strategic planning.

• Basic principles and practices of organizational improvement, equity and culture change.

• Safety policies and safe work practices applicable to the work being performed.

• Board Policies, Administrative Procedures, Human Resources procedures and collective bargaining agreements. 

 

Skills and Abilities to:

Plan and direct activities of staff engaged in admissions and records programs, processes and services.

• Analyze and make sound recommendations on the interpretation and application of complex legal mandates, regulations, guidelines, policies and procedures applicable to enrollment, registration, transfers, residency and attendance accounting with consistency and a high degree of accuracy.

• Define and negotiate the articulation of transcripts from other institutions; maintain articulation tables and databases.

• Work collaboratively with District deans, directors, managers and the community and provide expert advice and counsel to develop solutions to complex issues.

• Organize, set priorities and exercise expert, independent judgment within areas of responsibility.

• Develop and maintain an inclusive work environment that fosters diversity, respect and engagement.

• Develop and implement appropriate procedures and controls.

• Prepare clear, concise and comprehensive correspondence, reports, studies and other written materials.

• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

• Understand, interpret, explain and apply applicable laws, codes and ordinances.

• Represent the District effectively in negotiations and dealings with the other educational institutions, the Chancellor's office, students and the public.

• Make presentations and present proposals and recommendations clearly, logically and persuasively to diverse audiences.

• Operate computer and enterprise software at an advanced level, and other standard business equip­ment including imaging systems.

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

 

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance program.   

 

Additional Information

Salary: Full-time management assignment (225-day), 12 months per year, Monday through Friday, with evenings and/or weekends as needed. Current eight-step schedule ranges from $7,146 to $10,055 per month. A doctoral stipend of $3,977 is granted to eligible employees.
