About Us

KIPP SoCal Public Schools (KIPP SoCal) is a nonprofit organization that operates tuition-free, open-enrollment, public charter schools focused on preparing students in systemically under-resourced communities in Southern California for choice filled lives. In July 2019, KIPP LA Public Schools and KIPP San Diego Public Schools united to become KIPP SoCal Public Schools to better meet the needs of our students. We currently operate 19 schools, educate approximately 8,200 students and support an additional 4,300 alumni who are attending high school and college.

The Opportunity

  • The Human Resources Partner is responsible for working with school based leadership teams to align our HR initiatives and functions with KIPP SoCal objectives and needs. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the role is based out of the School Success Team office in East Los Angeles, CA. This role will support in the areas of employee relations, onboarding/offboarding, strategic HR initiatives, consulting with school management to provide daily HR guidance, analyzing and reporting on people related data, managing workers compensation and interactive process for assigned schools, and collaborating with HR leadership on updating policies and practices. 

Employee Relations (55%)

  • Serve as a consultant to management on human resource-related issues
  • Participate in developing department goals, objectives and systems.
  • Perform school level audits; assess and anticipate HR-related needs
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues. Conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to management (e.g., coaching, counseling, disciplinary actions, policy guidance and interpretation)
  • Work closely with management and team members to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Identify training/coaching needs for school management teams
  • Administration of personnel change requests; helpdesk
  • Maintain HR Investigations Log

HR Operations - Training & Development (25%)

  • Communicate with managers to identify training needs and mapping out development plans for teams and individuals
  • Manage, design, develop, coordinate and conduct HR Operations training programs
  • Assist with mapping out annual training plans for management, HR, school support, etc.
  • Assist with annual and year-round new hire on-boarding and off-boarding processes

Workers Compensation Administration (10%)

  • In-take and monitoring of workers’ compensation claims
  • Evaluation of incident/illness reports; follow up and conduct investigations as needed
  • WC Carrier claims reporting and management
  • OSHA annual reporting 
  • Maintain WC log updated

Disability & Reasonable Accommodation (10%)

  • Primary point of contact for all work accommodation requests.
  • Collaborate with HR Partners and Management on determining accommodations.
  • Reporting as needed

The Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have 5 - 7 years of relative work experience, a Bachelor’s Degree in human resources and/or organizational development, plus HR designation by either HRCI or SHRM (i.e. SHRM- CP/SCP, SPHR/PHR)
  • Thorough knowledge of all federal, state and local employment and workers' compensation laws
  • Must have a demonstrated track record as a Human Resources Partner within a fast-paced organization that serves 500+ FTEs
  • Experience gathering and reporting on HR metrics desired
  • Experience working for a charter management organization and/or multi-site company desired
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop productive working relationships with stakeholders across functional and organizational lines.
  • High quality verbal, written and presentation communication skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to produce high-quality work in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to multi-task and set priorities accordingly to meet deadlines and make critical decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Proficient in Google Apps, Microsoft Office and HRIS HRB/Portal Administration
  • Flexible team player; willingness to step in and support team within the department and cross-functionally based on operational demands
  • Possess and maintain a valid California Driver License
  • 35-50% travel (mostly same day travel within LA County)
