Job Summary

Job Summary

Assists a student one-on-one. Assists teacher in instructing individuals and small groups of students in various learning situations including basic academic subjects, library activities, self-help, social integrations, etc. Implements learning situations, which may include individualized instruction for the specific needs of assigned areas. Assists in supervising students to maintain effective learning environment, noting behavioral problems observed and disciplining when necessary. Assists in establishing and maintaining information and operational records and files. Escort’s students to and from transportation pick-up/delivery place on campus. Assists in supervision of students during lunch hours, assemblies, etc. Confers with teachers regarding students’ progress, program evaluation, problem areas, etc. May assist teachers on field trips by helping students meet physical needs, maintaining discipline, and reinforcing learning situations. Performs other duties as required to meet the varied health and education needs, which are presented by students with disabilities. Attend home visitations as needed. * Lifts, carries students as needed. * Positions students in wheelchairs or other equipment. * Documents and administers medication. * Feeds students either orally or tube feeding. * Supervises loading and unloading of wheelchair on buses. * Toilet trains and changes diapers. * Administers aerosol treatments.* Follows safety standards and specific hygienic routines. * Vents (removes gas via stomach tube).* Performs splint/brace procedures. * Transports students when needed in a District automobile.* Takes direction from therapists and other health professionals.* Suctions (removes mucus from mouth and throat with machine).

Requirements / Qualifications

* Graduation from high school or equivalent * Pass 2 out of 3 sections of the CODESP or Verification of 12 Child Development Units * Possession of a valid California driver’s license * Current CPR/First Aid Certificate * Ability to pass the pre-employment medical assessment

This is a temporary position available for the 2019-2020 school year only (through June 2020): M-F 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (1 hour lunch) 5.5 hours
