EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Screens students for speech/language classes; develops and implements appropriate remedial techniques for each student as indicated on the Individualized Education Program (IEP); consults with administrators, teachers, parents and other professional personnel concerning speech, language and hearing problems; maintains student records as required by the District and Special Education Master Plan; refers students to community agencies as appropriate; arranges and participates in School Appraisal Team (SAT) and Educational Assessment Service (EAS) as appropriate; is a resource in the area of speech/language to staff and parents; provides inservice in the area of speech/language as appropriate and other job related duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Screens students for speech/language classes; develops and implements appropriate remedial techniques for each student as indicated on the Individualized Education Program (IEP); consults with administrators, teachers, parents and other professional personnel concerning speech, language and hearing problems; maintains student records as required by the District and Special Education Master Plan; refers students to community agencies as appropriate; arranges and participates in School Appraisal Team (SAT) and Educational Assessment Service (EAS) as appropriate; is a resource in the area of speech/language to staff and parents; provides inservice in the area of speech/language as appropriate and other job related duties as assigned.
SKILLS/ABILITIES
Knowledge of appropriate diagnostic and screening instruments in the area of speech/language; knowledge of appropriate materials to be used with specific deficiencies at the various grade levels; knowledge of equipment necessary for speech/language screening; ability to interact well with handicapped and regular students; ability to interact with staff, parents and community agencies; familiarity with Special Education Master Plan.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Credential:
General Speech Correction and Lip Reading in Remedial Classes or General Special Secondary Credential in Correction of Speech Defects; Standard Teaching Credential with a Specialization in elementary or secondary Speech and Hearing or Standard Teaching Credential Limited Specialization Preparation in the area of Speech and Hearing or Standard Restricted Special Education Credential in the area of Speech and Hearing Specialist or Speech and Hearing Therapy or a Specialist in Communication Handicapped or a Specialist in Clinical Rehabilitative.
Education:
Master’s or higher degree, including all courses needed to meet requirements for credential.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position must perform in carrying out the essential functions of the position.
Physical Demands: Walk, look downward, turn neck (up to continuously) sit, bend, (frequently); stand, stoop, squat, reach, push, pull, (Occasionally; kneel, crawl. Climb (infrequently); grasp/manipulate materials & supplies (continuously); lift items to 10 pounds (frequently), carry to 10 pounds (occasionally), lift/carry to 40 pounds (infrequently) (occasionally for PE and Industrial Arts teachers) use seeing, hearing and speaking (continuous, in class).
Working Conditions: Indoor classrooms, exposure to: student noise and music, odors of food and science projects, possible communicable diseases or unruly students. Outdoor schoolyard and grounds, exposure to; temperatures, dust, pesticides and smoke (seasonally)
