CURRENT VACANCY DETAILS: 3.0 HRS/DAY - WORK YEAR (200 DAYS) POSITION FUNCTION: Under the supervision of an assigned administrator, perform duties is support of school outreach activities, including but not limited to: communicate with parents in English and Spanish regarding school attendance, academic and social adjustment of referred students; assist in promoting student and parent precipitation in school activities and in building and maintaining relations with community groups for purposes of generating resources that benefit District students and families. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS BETWEEN RELATED CLASSES School Outreach Assistant is distinguished from the job class of Intermediate Clerk-Typist/Bilingual, as in addition to performing clerical support functions consistent with the scope and complexity assigned to positions in the ICT/Bi job class, the latter spends an equal or greater amount of position assignment time performing duties in support of the parent, school and community outreach activities at one or multiple assigned school sites.

Provide assistance to newcomer and currently enrolled students and families who are limited or unable to speak English with information on school and District guidelines, policies and procedures, and available program services and community resources, including, but not limited to:

MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS: |
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency, AND an equivalent of one year (1) of professional experience working in an instructional or community service program, performing community outreach and clerical support duties. *Alternate variations of education/experience may be considered by Personnel Commission staff as acceptable to qualify for participation in the examination process resulting in an eligibility list. When appropriate additional work experience beyond the minimum requirement may be supplemented for required minimum education requirements. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

(a) Written Examination - the written test will assess basic competency in math, english/grammar, reading comprehension, etc. Date TBD (b) Bilingual Assessment - written exam to assess fluency in one's ability to read, write and speak in Spanish.
(c) Structured Oral Interview - the oral interview will contain questions that assess technical knowledge and experience, and one's general fitness for successful performance in the position. For those passing the written exam, the oral interviews -Date TBD. A total score will be computed using weighted scores on the written and oral examinations. Applicants must receive a passing score (70%) on the exam to be placed on the eligibility list. |
