About the Employer

We are a unified school district serving more than 16,150 students in grades K -12. We have thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, three specialized high schools, two alternative high schools and one K-8 school. We also offer a home schooling program, adult education courses and other unique programs to fit the needs of all students. Our school district employs approximately 1,100 certificated and nearly 900 classified employees. Antioch Unified School District is centrally located in the East Bay and provides ready access to scenic mountains, waterfronts, wine country, historical sites and the Pacific Ocean. Antioch is known as the “Gateway to the Delta” and is one of California’s oldest cities, with a diverse community of approximately 100,000. Basic Function: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of special needs students; assist in the preparation of instructional materials and implementation of individual education plans; provide routine clerical support. Education/Experience Requirement: Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from high school or equivalent; experience working with children in an educational or child care setting; or any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities. Certification requirements: Possession of a valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency prior to employment.

Knowledge Of: Child guidance principles and practices related to children with special needs, basic subjects taught in local schools, including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language and reading, basic instructional methods and techniques, correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. Problems and concerns of students with special education needs, classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct, safe practices in classroom and playground activities, operation of standard office and classroom equipment including a computer. Oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy, basic record-keeping and report preparation techniques, First aid and CPR procedures (see job description for full details). Requirement: Paraprofessional Proficiency Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA): If you have 48 higher education semester units, an AA degree or higher or have passed a proficiency examination and received a Certificate, you qualify to apply for an AUSD paraprofessional classification. Please include verification of compliance with your application. If your application passes the screening process, you will be contacted by the Human Resources office. If you do not meet the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Paraprofessional Proficiency Requirement (above), you may still apply and your application will be screened for completeness and minimum qualifications.
