BASIC FUNCTION & DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS THIS POSITION IS DUAL CERTIFICATION AND IS OPEN TO BOTH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CANDIDATES Vacancies: 1 Hours: 8 Hours/Day (Monday-Friday 6:00 AM - 8:30 AM, 10:30 AM - 4:30 PM - Split Shift) Months: 9.5 Location: Facilities, Development, and Transportation Eligibility Lists: One list will be created from Open Competitive and Promotional candidates BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, Development, and Transportation and/or an assigned lead, operate a school bus, transport students, and perform daily safety inspection of bus equipment. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The classification of Bus Driver is distinguished from the Lead Bus Driver classification in that the latter provides training to new and current Bus Drivers, assigns and reviews work, manages overtime rotation schedule, and performs other various lead duties. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Operate a school bus over designated routes in accordance with specified time schedules and in accordance with regulations and laws related to pupil transportation. Maintain order and discipline among students on bus following District policies and procedures regarding discipline of students and contact with school officials, parents and the public; interact with parents regarding questions and concerns. Pick up and discharge students at established bus stops; stop traffic and escort students across streets and roadways as needed to assure student safety; report incidents which affect the safety of students. Maintain the bus in a safe operating condition through prescribed daily vehicle inspections; check and maintain fuel, oil and water levels, brakes, brake lights and doors; report mechanical defects and malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
