JOB CLASSIFICATION TITLE:                                                        Inclusion Specialist (Severe)                                                                                                                                                                                   

 

 

DEFINITION:  Under the direction of an assigned administrator, organize and implement services for students with severe disabilities to enable them to be successful in less restrictive settings, including non-severe special day classes or general education.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Develop an inclusive educational setting for students in collaboration with classroom teachers, school administrators and other school personnel.
  2. Collaborate with classroom teachers, paraprofessionals and other support personnel regarding appropriate modification and adaptation of instruction for students.
  3. Administer formal and/or informal assessments.
  4. Facilitate the development of Present Levels of Performance, Annual Goals and Short-Term Objectives for review at IEP team meetings.
  5. Document student progress toward achievement of annual goals.
  6. Attend parent/teacher conferences and IEP meetings, as appropriate mail.
  7. Plan and implement instructional activities for student.
  8. Provide training to school site personnel regarding the unique needs of students.
  9. Participate in staff development activities to maintain and expand skills and knowledge; and perform other related work as required.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions:

 

  • Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 60 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • This type of work will involve walking or standing for extended periods.
  • Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate equipment, and handle work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable a person with a disability to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Stooping, squatting, kneeling, overhead reaching and repetitive bending may be involved frequently with this position.
  • Persons performing service in this position classification will be exposed to outdoor conditions including, but not limited to, extreme temperature; equipment and objects related to the position.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Operate equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, pushing and pulling.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Knowledge of:

  • The unique learning needs of students identified as having a severe disability, including mental retardation, autism and emotional disturbance.
  • Developmental levels, K-12.
  • General Education Curriculum and Special Education Curriculum.
  • Methods and strategies for successful inclusion of students with disabilities in less restrictive settings.
  • Curriculum adaptation methodology.
  • Applied Behavior Analysis.

Ability to:

  • Assess students educational needs.
  • Relate with parents and professionals.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
  • Possess a valid California driver’s license and maintain insurability.

Experience:

  • Successful experience as a specialist working with students who are identified with a severe disability, preferably in a school setting that provided inclusion or integration opportunities.

Education:

  • Possess or be able to obtain a Master’s degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis.
  • Possess or be able to obtain an Educatin Specialist Instruction Credential-Moderate/Severe Disabilities
