Requirements / Qualifications

The Special Olympics Coach will be responsible for working with all three school districts to develop and coordinate 4 Special Olympics Events during the course of the 2019-20 school year. These events will invite participation from current students with disabilities, grades K-12+, in a variety of events (soccer, basketball, track and field) in which teams formally gather and compete. The events are to include participation from peers in the general education programs. Events and dates to be determined with district special education directors. The Special Olympics Coach will coordinate with staff (athletic directors, special day class teachers, APE specialists, and site administration) to prepare students for participation, arrange site logistics, acquire needed equipment, and collaborate with general education students and staff. The Special Olympics Coach will also be responsible for coordinated events geared towards the pre-school population of students with disabilities for all three districts. Other duties may include promoting Special Olympics events throughout all three districts, working with schools on other Special Olympics related outreach and gathering data related to event attendance, scope of programs and other related needs. Prefer candidates with background as Adapted Physical Education Teachers. Special Olympics Coach reports to the SELPA Director.
