Job Summary
Under the supervision of the site administrator, provides an educational program for pupils in grades 5-8, or a combination thereof, and assists in other school programs as assigned. Creates a flexible program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth. Establishes effective rapport with students to motivate them to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further participation in the total school program, in accordance with each pupil’s ability and to meet the Common Core State Standards. Establishes good relationships with parents and other staff members. Supervises instructional aides, student teachers, and parent volunteers when applicable

A teacher is a certificated employee directly responsible for planning, organizing, directing and evaluating pupils assigned to him or her, in order to facilitate learning in accordance with state law and district policy. This employee is directly responsible to the building Principal and, under his/her direction, will perform functions and do related work as required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Safety and Welfare of Pupils
*A teacher is responsible for the supervision of pupils in the classroom, and out of the classroom activities during the assigned work day. The teacher shall instruct and supervise pupils in drill procedures for fire, earthquake and civil defense.
*A teacher identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assisting and helping solve health, attitude and learning problems.
*A teacher insures a comfortable room environment through control of heating, lighting and ventilation to the extent possible.
Facilitating Pupil Learning
*A teacher shall maintain consistent and effective control with a balance of freedom and responsibility, and shall counsel pupils and consult with Principal and/or parent for additional help. The teacher shall speak in a well modulated voice.
*A teacher shall teach the curriculum required by the District, according to the grade levels and special areas as assigned including adherence to IEP's as appropriate.
*A teacher shall select and requisition books, instructional aides, instructional supplies, and plan lessons and objectives in advance. Lesson plans shall be complete enough, to be utilized by others in an emergency situation. They shall be flexible enough to adapt to changing circumstances.
*A teacher shall diagnose the needs of the pupils, develop appropriate goals and objectives, and evaluate pupil progress.
*A teacher shall be familiar with technology, follow proper procedure in utilization of them and use technology to enhance learning.
*A teacher shall follow district reporting procedures, and hold conferences with parents as needed or required.
Professional Attitude and Responsibility
*A teacher shall observe the confidence of parents, pupils, school personnel and the community by not discussing personal information (except with individuals having a direct need to know). A positive attitude and respect for the individual child shall be evidenced by not making negative comments or labeling children.
*A teacher shall be willing to assume responsibility, cooperate with and seek help from the staff.
*A teacher shall attend staff meetings, district meetings, required workshops, and participate in community activities when possible.
*A teacher participates cooperatively with the Principal, or his designee to mutually develop the system by which he will be evaluated in conformance with the district's uniform guidelines for evaluation and assessment.
*A teacher shall be receptive to professional suggestions of the administration, and shall use proper channels of line-staff communications.
*A teacher shall observe the proper time for arrival and departure for work, and assigned duties and meetings.
*A teacher shall meet district standards for physical and mental health, and maintain a clean, neat and appropriate appearance which will establish a desirable example for pupils.
*A teacher maintains professional competence through participation inservice education activities provided by the district and/or self selected professional growth activities.
Requirements / Qualifications
Credential: Appropriate Valid California Single Subject Science Credential CLAD or BCLAD or equivalent. Education: Bachelor’s Degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.
