Requirements / Qualifications

RAINING: High school graduate or equivalent. EXPERIENCE: (1) One year experience in transporting students or satisfactory completion of a formal classroom and behind the-wheel training program by the California Highway Patrol for the operation of a school bus. Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above. Six (6) months of experience as a school bus driver is preferred. KNOWLEDGE OF: School bus transportation procedures and safe bus driving practices; State laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to school bus operations and pupil transportation; First Aid and CPR principles and practices. ABILITY TO: Drive a school bus safely and efficiently; Maintain order among students on a school bus; Recognize malfunctions in equipment and take appropriate action; Learn designated bus routes, including stops and traffic hazards; Administer first aid and CPR; Keep clear and accurate records and reports; Work independently with limited supervision; Communicate in English clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contracted in the course of work.

SPECIAL LICENSE/CERTIFICATES: LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid Class A or B California Motor Vehicle Operator's License with passenger transportation endorsement, "S", and air brake endorsement. Must have a current DMV H-6 printout to be submitted with the job application. California Special Driver Certificate valid for school buses. Current California Highway Patrol approved First Aid Certificate (if required on Special Driver Certificate).
