Administers the program in accordance with Board policies, statutory requirements, administrative rules and regulations, and consistent with collective bargaining agreements. Serves as an advocate for the staff, school and school community as appropriate. Utilizes the strategic plan, district goals, district policy, and the approved school improvement plan to guide both personal leadership and the work of the school staff. Annual evaluation will be based upon this job description, goals and objectives specific to the school or the position, student achievement data, and the performance of the Principal.

Community Profile Castle Rock, the Gateway to Mount St. Helens, is situated between the Cowlitz River and Interstate 5, located 134 miles south of Seattle and 63 miles north of Portland, Oregon. It is the northern most city in Cowlitz County, with a population of 2,120. Spirit Lake Memorial Highway connects the city to the Mount St. Helens National Monument and Spirit Lake recreation areas – two of the most outstanding tourist attractions in Washington State. The City of Castle Rock received the Association of Washington Cities 2004 Municipal Achievement Gold Medal Award in recognition of the Riverfront Trail Project. Castle Rock’s historic downtown features a wide variety of shops, antique stores, restaurants, and accommodations. Castle Rock was named after a large volcanic rock formation, which rises 190 feet high. The city has preserved this site and visitors can hike to the top of ‘The Rock.’ The rock formation, resembling a castle, became a geographic landmark to early river travelers including the Cowlitz Indians and Hudson’s Bay Company traders as early as 1832. Castle Rock prospered as a Cowlitz River steamboat port and trading center for valley farms. A local sawmill was the first to produce cedar shingles, using the Western red cedar, which grows in abundance in the region. Many outdoor activities are available in the area such as: hiking, bicycling, fishing, boating, hunting, motorcycle racing and numerous sporting events (baseball, wrestling, soccer, track and football). In addition, the community hosts the annual Mountain Mania Festival and Castle Rock Fair, which are both held in July.
