ANNOUNCEMENT OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIVE POSITION

CATHOLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

Santa Sophia Academy, Spring Valley, CA

Diocese of San Diego, California

Santa Sophia Academy in coordination with the Diocese of San Diego is seeking a qualified and experienced educational leader who is deeply committed to further the development of the faith life and academic excellence of a single classroom Preschool through eighth grade school located in Spring Valley, California.  The position is effective July 1, 2019.    For more information about the school go to https://santasophiaacademy.org/, and for more information about the parish go to https://www.santasophia.org/. 

Principal Qualifications:

Religious: 

The Principal Shall:

1)  be a leader/facilitator of the school faith community

2)  be a practicing Roman Catholic with understanding of the Catholic faith

3)  be deeply committed to the development of his/her own faith and that of the parents, teachers and students

4)  be understanding and dedicated to the ministry of Catholic education

Professional:

              1)  be a Roman Catholic

              2)  have five years of teaching experience, ideally a minimum of five years in Catholic Schools

3)  have a Master’s Degree in school administration and/or California Administrative Credential or at least 5 years administrative experience within Catholic education

4)  have the ability to verbalize and clarify philosophy of Catholic School Education based upon relevant church teaching

5)  demonstrate leadership ability in past or present educational assignments

Principal Job Description:

The principal has, as delegate of the pastor, immediate responsibility for implementing the philosophy of the school in its regular operation.  A school principal has the responsibility to:

              1)  Implement the philosophy of the school in its regular operations

              2)  Administer the total school program

              3)  Supervise and evaluate: a) Professional personnel; b) Auxiliary support staff; c) Students

              4)  Provide instructional leadership

5)  Monitor the financial operations of the school (in conjunction with the parish business manager) and report to the pastor and the finance council

6)  Cooperate with the PTG Board, Finance Council, and other auxiliary groups to promote a development program for the school’s financial stability 

Salary:

Negotiated based upon experience, education and qualifications

Candidates will be interviewed by the Director of Schools after application is reviewed and references contacted.  Names, resumes and/or applications will be forwarded to the pastor.  All acceptable candidates will be interviewed by The Santa Sophia Interview Committee, chaired by the Pastor.  (Candidates contacted for interview will travel at their own expense)
