The Quarry Lane School, a private, Jr.K-12, college preparatory and International Baccalaureate School in Dublin, CA, seeks an experienced Middle School Language Arts Teacher to serve our highly motivated students.

 

Quarry Lane School is seeking a teacher interested in creating a classroom environment that fosters and develops students’ skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing that are fundamental to becoming effective communicators and informed, literate citizens. The ideal applicant will be able to develop and teach curriculum that covers appropriate literature of many genres, motivate students to read closely and critically across several platforms, including print and digital media, and will help develop standards and practices that reflect the values of The Quarry Lane School, including being effective communicators and collaborators, self-reflective critical thinkers, adept at technology and media for expression, prepared for numerous academic challenges, and leading a healthy lifestyle.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Teaches content and skills in English language, literature, composition, reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar to middle school students, utilizing curriculum designated by The Quarry Lane School.
  • Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in QLS Standards.  
  • Adapts English material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments and lesson plans that guide and challenge students.
  • Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division’s basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course/QLS standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
  • Evaluates academic and social growth of students.
  • Keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, updated portal plus entries and other record keeping activities as necessary.
  • Encourages students to think independently and to express original ideas.
  • Evaluates each student’s progress in meeting the course standards for English skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing).
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health and attitude problems.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  • Supervises students in assigned out-of-classroom activities during the working day.
  • Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities.
  • Participates in various student and parent activities which occur in school including student clubs and after-school activities.
  • Creates an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and activity/learning centers.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Program Director, Team Lead or other appropriate administrator.

 

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English or Humanities.
  • Master’s degree in education or a related field.
  • Eligible or possess teaching credential with appropriate endorsement to teach Language Arts.
  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in a professional setting.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, & the public.
  • Flexibility in thinking, ability to participate and effect change, and sense of humor preferred.
