JOB TITLE: SECONDARY TEACHER
(Special Education Mild/Moderate)
DEPARTMENT: INSTRUCTIONAL
REPORTS TO: Principal and Administrator of Support Services
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Establish standards, as set forth by the state, of expected student progress in each area of study and techniques for their assessment.
- Teaches content and skills in the courses, subjects agreed upon, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Trustees.
- Instruct students in citizenship, basic communication skills and other general elements of the course of study specified by state law and the administrative policies and regulations of the school district.
- Selects and requisitions books, instructional aides and supplies, as funds are available and maintains required inventory records.
- Provides planned learning experiences and develops instructional materials in order to motivate students and best utilize the available time for each individual student.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere. A pleasant and positive attitude shall be maintained in order to foster student feelings of dignity, pride and self worth.
- Evaluates student performance, keeps appropriate records, prepares progress reports and communicates with parents when deemed necessary by the teacher on individual student progress and interpreting the school program.
- Identifies student’s needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems.
- Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the District and/or self selected professional growth activities.
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities as agreed upon in performance contract. Such as: clubs and class advisor, chaperone, campus supervision and other student activities.
- Administers tests in accordance with District testing program.
- Participates in standards based curriculum as set forth by the state and participates in other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a District, county level.
- May assist in providing social/emotional outreach information to students, refer to outside counseling services as needed, attend meetings and coordinate with other staff members on students’ health issues, and other related activities as needed.
- Provides direct personal care such as but not limited to: diapering, toileting, mobility support.
- Plans and coordinates the work of student teachers, aides, teacher assistants, and other para-professionals when used.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Credential: Meet State (legal) requirements.
- Mild/Moderate authorization required
- Autism Authorization required
- Highly Qualified in mathematics preferred
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree and all courses needed to meet credential requirements.
- Experience: Practice teaching or full-time teaching experience.
- Ability to work with students and motivate them to perform up to their potential
- Ability to contribute to a team effort to educated Corning High School students in a positive educational environment
- Qualification and ability to be versatile in a teaching assignment
- Ability, experience, and willingness to be involved in after school activities
ABILITY TO:
- Use English properly, including spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

- Work well with people such as teachers and school staff.

SALARY:
Present salary based on 182 days of service, entry level from $41, 464.00 to $55,640.00, depending on experience. District contributes toward family medical, dental, and vision plans.
