Welcome to Griffin Technology Academies - Griffin Technology Academies is located in one of the most affordable areas to live in the San Francisco Bay Area. The first GTA charter, Mare Island Technology Academy Middle and High Schools was founded in 2001, later adding Griffin Academy Middle and High Schools in 2018. GTA Schools serve students in grades 6-12. Griffin Technology Academies offer a variety of programs and services designed to support students in achieving academic success. These include: small class sizes, personalized instruction, extracurricular activities and enrichment opportunities like, burgeoning athletic programs, before and after school care program, early college (dual enrollment, articulation, concurrent enrollment), AVID, and CTE courses. The schools also provide students with access to technology resources, including laptops and tablets. Students in High School have the opportunity for community service and internships overseen by our Work-Based Learning Coordinator (WBL). Primary Function: Under the direct supervision of the Director the teacher provides an educational program that meets the instructional needs of each student in the teacher’s area of credentialed responsibility consistent with MIT goals and Board policy.
Representative Duties and Responsibilities
- Teaches assigned subject area utilizing adopted course of study and other standards-aligned learning activities.
- Provides standards-based instruction that is consistent with school expectations and that meets the needs of all students assigned to the teacher.
- Communicates with students, parents, administrators and other staff members in a manner that is consistent with school expectations.
- Provides planned learning experiences in order to motivate students and best utilize the time available for instruction.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a safe and productive classroom atmosphere consistent with school expectations.
- Employs planning, record-keeping, resource management, and classroom management practices that maximize the teacher’s effectiveness.
- Provides for student supervision that ensures student safety consistent with school expectations.
- Evaluates student academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, prepares progress reports, and communicates with parents on individual student progress.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health and behavior problems.
- Performs attendance accounting and business services as required.
- Participates in curricular and extra-curricular school programs, assessment and development activities, student supervision and control, and staff, parent, department and school meetings consistent with collective bargaining agreement.
- Participates in IEP meetings and provides instruction to students with special needs in accordance with IEP utilizing support services as appropriate.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Assumes professional responsibilities in a manner which meets school expectations and ensures continued personal and professional growth.
- Implements school goals and objectives for certificated teachers as written in the individual’s planning conference.
- Performs other duties as assigned consistent with MIT Board Policies and the MITATA Teachers’ contract.
- Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids and instructional supplies, and maintains required inventory records.
- Maintains a reasonably comfortable room environment through control of heating, lighting and ventilation to the extent possible.
- Administers group standardized tests in accordance with the school’s testing program, following prescribed State mandated guidelines.
- Plans and coordinates the work of aides, teacher assistants and other para educators as appropriate.
- Collaborates with other professional staff members in the development of curriculum and instructional strategies.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
