PARENT LIAISON - BILINGUAL BASIC FUNCTION: Under direction, serve as a liaison between sites and departments and non-English speaking parents; provide assistance and information to parents in all aspects of student registration, placement and community resources; provide interpreting and translating services to site and district personnel. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Serve as a liaison between school sites/departments and non-English speaking parents of students; respond to inquiries, resolve issues and concerns and provide information concerning programs, guidelines, requirements, laws, regulations, policies and procedures. E Make home visits and telephone calls to non-English speaking parents of students; encourage interest and involvement in school activities; escort parents to observe classroom activities and enhance understanding of student placement options; arrange related schedules. E Serve as a resource for local community events; attend community support group meetings and provide information concerning school functions and activities; prepare and distribute notices and other informational materials to school sites and the community. E Research community resources providing services to non-English speakers; provide referrals to community resource services and information to parents. E Communicate with District personnel and various outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns. E Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer and assigned software; drive a vehicle to conduct work. E Maintain routine records related to mileage and assigned activities. E Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Basic interviewing and advisement techniques. Problems and concerns of non-English speaking students and their families. Correct grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary in English and another language. Oral and written communication skills in English and another language. Interpersonal skills including cultural sensitivity using tact, patience and courtesy. Operation of standard office equipment including a computer and assigned software. Programs for English language learners. Basic record-keeping techniques. Basic public relations techniques. ABILITY TO: Serve as a liaison between a site/department and non-English speaking parents of students. Escort parents to observe classroom activities and enhance understanding of placement options. Assist parents with understanding related processes and procedures. Provide community resource referral services and information to parents. Learn, interpret, apply and explain laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Meet schedules and time lines. Understand and relate to English language learners. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English and another language including cultural sensitivity. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Work independently with little direction. Maintain routine records related to work performed. Operate standard office equipment including a computer and assigned software. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years experience working with non-English speaking parents and students. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California driver’s license. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: School and office environment. Driving a vehicle to conduct work. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard. Hearing and speaking to exchange information. Seeing to read a variety of materials. Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.

** Applicants for this position must be bilingual proficient in Spanish (speak, read and write). The current vacancy is 17.5 hours per week, working hours from 4:00pm - 7:00pm (2.5 additional hours per week flexible) and does not include benefits.
