About the Employer

We are a unified school district serving more than 16,150 students in grades K -12. We have thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, three specialized high schools, two alternative high schools and one K-8 school. We also offer a home schooling program, adult education courses and other unique programs to fit the needs of all students. Our school district employs approximately 1,100 certificated and nearly 900 classified employees. Antioch Unified School District is centrally located in the East Bay and provides ready access to scenic mountains, waterfronts, wine country, historical sites and the Pacific Ocean. Antioch is known as the “Gateway to the Delta” and is one of California’s oldest cities, with a diverse community of approximately 100,000. Examinations: Written and Oral: The selection process will consist of an application screening for completeness and qualifications, a written exam (weighted 60% of total) and an oral interview exam (weighted 40% of total). Required Education/Experience: Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from high school or equivalent; experience working with children in an educational or child care setting; or any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities. Read, write and speak proficient in both English and Spanish languages.

Basic Function: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of limited or non-English speaking students in a classroom environment by interpreting written materials and oral lectures; serve as an interpreter for teachers or non-English speaking parents as directed; perform a variety of clerical support duties including maintaining student records and files. KNOWLEDGE OF: Correct oral and written usage of English and a designated second language. Basic subjects taught in District schools, including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language and reading. Child guidance principles and practices. Safe practices in classroom and playground activities. Basic instructional methods and techniques. Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct. Operation of standard office and classroom equipment. Oral and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Record-keeping techniques. ABILITY TO: Read, write and interpret English and a designated second language, assist with instruction and related activities in a classroom or assigned learning environment, reinforce instruction to individual or small groups of students as directed by the teacher, perform a variety of clerical duties including typing, filing and duplicating materials, understand and follow oral and written directions. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others, communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English and a designated second language, monitor, observe and report student behavior and progress according to approved policies and procedures.
