BRENTWOOD UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT

Job Title: Custodian (day)
Reports to: Site Administrator/Director of Maintenance & Operations

Primary Function: Under general supervision, perform routine cleaning duties at school site or office buildings of the district; work closely with site administrator to provide custodial services for events and special needs.

Performance Responsibilities:
* Set up and clean up cafeteria for breakfast and lunch
* Sweep, scrub, wax and polish linoleum, tile and wood floors
* Vacuum rugs and carpets in all district facilities
* Clean and dust walls, furniture, woodwork, lockers, and other equipment
* Pick up paper and other refuse on grounds; sweep walks and entrances
* Wash, scrub and disinfect rest rooms; clean up after sick students
* Clean windows, door glass and drinking fountains
* Clean and polish metal work such as door panels and hand railings
* Empty and clean waste containers
* Turn on and off room heaters and hot water heaters
* Assist in moving or rearranging chairs, tables, desks, furniture, and other equipment
* Make minor repairs or adjustments to classroom furniture and equipment; replace light globes
* Maintain equipment used in the course of work
* Perform special custodial work upon request of faculty members, site administrator and immediate supervisor
* Address safety, sanitary and fire hazards
* Process referrals for work orders
* Lead/supervise in restoration of buildings and grounds during non-student attendance break periods
* Open school and turn off alarms upon arrival
* Direct duties and oversee night custodian; consult with Director of Maintenance on evaluation of night custodian
* All other duties as assigned

Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge of: Methods of cleaning and preserving floors, walls and fixtures; proper and safe use of cleaning materials, disinfectants, and equipment used in custodial work.

Abilities
Use cleaning materials and equipment, including heavy cleaning equipment with skill and efficiency; understand and carry out oral and written directions; understand and follow a work schedule; establish and maintain a positive relationship with school district personnel.

ADA Requirements
Stand, bend, twist, reach, grasp, stretch, climb, balance, kneel, crouch or squat, push, pull or drag; occasionally lift and carry objects weighing approximately 50 lbs. (i.e., garbage and trash bags/cans; cleaning equipment and supplies, tables and chairs, classroom desks, etc.).

Experience
Some custodial experience in a school setting desired.

Education
Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade. Must be able to pass standard proficiency test of basic knowledge.

Valid California drivers license.
