CNS DELIVERY DRIVER

DEFINITION:  Under general supervision, drives a truck to deliver breakfast and lunch to serving sites and deliver food and supplies to production kitchens; receives, stores and inventories food and supplies and maintains food warehouse.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:  The scope of work is limited and the duties are standardized, and generally follow specific guidelines or established procedures.  Employees in this classification are assigned to the Child Nutritional Services Department.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: The listed examples are intended to represent typical duties assigned to the classification and may not include all duties that may be assigned.   Not every position performs all of the duties listed. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

(E) Identifies essential functions.

  • Delivers breakfast and lunch food to serving sites in a timely manner. (E)
  • Unloads groceries and supplies after vendors make deliveries to the District warehouse; verifies receipts and tracks related paperwork. (E)
  • Shelves, stores and rotates stock and inventories items. (E)
  • Maintains stock bins and storage areas in a neat, clean and orderly manner; performs minor custodial work. (E)
  • Sorts, organizes, packs, lifts and loads food and supplies and makes deliveries to production kitchens. (E)
  • Maintains inventory, records and tracks items delivered from the District warehouse; reports product shortages. (E)
  • Follows scheduled delivery routes. (E)
  • Collects money from school cafeterias and transports to the Child Nutritional Services office. (E)
  • Monitors supply levels and makes lists for needed food purchases.
  • Posts information to forms and records. (E)
  • Secures loading and unloading zones.
  • May enter and track computer data.
  • Acts as an information source for routine procedural questions regarding food deliveries. (E)
  • Performs preventative maintenance to vehicles and equipment such as removing ice from the freezer, checking gas and oil levels, battery fluid, tire pressure and keeps vehicles clean. (E)
  • Operates a fork lift as needed. (E)
  • Attends staff meetings, in-service activities, workshops, conferences and other training as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years driving or warehouse experience.

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of or ability to read, learn and follow department policies, procedures, rules, regulations and operations.
  • Knowledge of safe operation and maintenance requirements and ability to use the following in a safe manner: pick-up, delivery truck, van, hydraulic lifts, scissor lift, electric pallet jack, hand trucks, and forklifts.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use radio communications.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and directions.
  • Ability to work with interruptions.
  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude and behavior and strong customer service focus at all times.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
  • Skill and ability to use tact, patience and courtesy in interpersonal relationships, exercise good judgment and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to obtain forklift certification.
  • Ability to obtain food handler’s card.

·         Possession of a valid California driver’s license.  Must be able to meet and maintain eligibility for coverage under the district’s liability insurance carrier.

  • Basic computer skills.  Must pass District computer literacy test.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:  The physical requirements below are necessary to perform the essential functions.  Reasonable accommodation will be made to enable a person with a disability to perform these functions.

  • Work environment is a combination of food warehouse and frequent travel.  Requires willingness and ability to work effectively by continuously standing, walking and moving about in a warehouse that has a food freezer, work around noise and drive vehicles on a daily basis to multiple sites in adverse weather conditions.
  • Physical, mental and emotional stamina to work under sometimes stressful conditions, with frequent distractions and interruptions and deal with angry/upset people in a calm and professional manner.
  • Sufficient hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity to use a variety of warehouse equipment, handle food and supplies, write, and process paperwork.
  • Sufficient visual acuity to see and read small print and drive safely.
  • Sufficient hearing to conduct in-person and telephone conversations.
  • Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distance, in a warehouse and on the telephone.
  • Sufficient mobility to walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stand stretch, reach and move around for extended periods of time up to an eight-hour shift (with the exception of breaks and lunch).
  • Sufficient mobility to enter/exit vehicles and drive to various locations locally.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
