Requirements / Qualifications
This position requires an Instructional Assistant test. Testing will be scheduled once the hiring manager screens the applications. Practice tests are available at www.codesp.com. Click on “Links” at the top of the page; click on “Test Taking Practice,” then select the test(s) that pertain to the position you’re applying for. Under the direction of the Principal and Librarian, candidate will assist in providing library services in an assigned secondary school library/media center; check books, textbooks, and materials in and out at the circulation desk; process and shelve library materials and textbooks; assist students and staff in the selection of library materials; assure students and teachers have access to library materials for classes, assignments, and recreational reading; implement the District’s plan for the acquisition of library skills and library orientation; train and assist in providing work direction to student helpers and parent volunteers. Qualifications: Candidate must be a high school graduate with one year of clerical or instructional experience working with children in an organized setting, including some experience in a library or media center environment. Candidate must have knowledge of basic library practices, procedures and terminology, the Dewey Decimal system and card/computer cataloging system, library reference materials and sources, as well as knowledge of filing, indexing and inventory procedures. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary, as well as good oral and written communication skills are essential. Candidate must have computer skills. Knowledge of an automated library system is desirable.
