The Torrance Unified School District consists of 17 elementary, 8 middle, 4 high schools, 1 continuation, and 1 alternative high school. The District also has 3 adult school campuses. Torrance Unified was established in 1947 and unified in 1948, and is nestled in the heart of the South Bay, in the southwestern part of Los Angeles County. Our District is bordered by the Palos Verdes Peninsula on the south, the beach cities - Redondo, Hermosa, and Manhattan Beach - to the west, and the cities of Lawndale and Hawthorne to the north. The District serves the entire City of Torrance and is governed by five school board members from five trustee areas. Requirements / Qualifications
This is an OPEN recruitment to establish an eligibility list, fill vacancies and hire substitutes. Substitutes work on an as-needed basis to fill in for absent employees. A permanent eligibility list will be created from this recruitment and will be used to fill permanent vacancies which may occur during the life of the eligibility list. Positions in this classification are part-time, approximately 1-2 hours per day, 10 months per year. The hourly rate for this position is Step 1: $14.45 - Step 5:$17.55. The recruitment process will consist of an oral technical interview. The first scheduled oral technical interview will be the week of January 2 – 4, 2019. Testing may then occur on a weekly basis. Qualified applicants will be notified by US mail or email. In accordance with AB 2160, effective January 1, 2019, all part-time playground positions will become part of the classified service.
