Objective

The Special Education Resource Specialist will have three primary functions: serving as a teaching support for students with IEPs, managing a caseload of student IEPs and being a contributing team member to multiple teams.

Esperanza College Prep is the fifth innovative high school of the Ednovate Network. Ednovate'smission is to close the college graduation gap through our Theory of Change, in which a strong sense of purpose and community, and a personalized college prep curriculum will allow each of our students to persist through college. Located in East Los Angeles, CA, Esperanza College Prep opened its doors to its first 9th grade class in August of 2017 and will expand one grade level per year until we serve students in grades 9-12 in the Fall of 2020. Esperanza College Prep provides students and families with a safe and nurturing school culture that has high expectations and delivers a rigorous personalized college prep experience. Esperanza College Prep will prepare each of its graduates to use their college degrees and careers to make a Positive Multigenerational Change. This free, public charter high school personalizes learning through technology, focuses on developing a strong sense of purpose and builds college ready mindsets to ensure all of its students are ready to go to and graduate from the best colleges in the country. Redesigning the high school experience requires that staff members be willing to respond to feedback and data in real-time, reflect constantly on the impact of their actions and collaborate to continuously improve their practice.

Description

In the teaching support function, the teacher will be responsible for supporting in the developing, collating and adopting a digital curriculum that is aligned to the ACT College and Career Readiness Standards, as well as the important content Common Core Standards for their course. Teachers will be responsible for enforcing, with 100% consistency, our school-wide student code of conduct - and, in doing so, create a safe and rigorous learning environment. On a daily, weekly and quarterly basis, the teacher will engage in rigorous data analysis, making informed decisions about student learning to maximize their impact each day. The teacher's primary accountability is towards student learning - making significant gains on the ACT with their students.

In the case management function, the education specialist will take responsibility for creating and implementing behavior support programs as defined in the IEP, developing IEP goals and objectives that address students of all ability levels, holding IEP meetings and working with teachers to ensure proper implementation of student accommodations. The education specialist will use on-going data and build strong relationships with core content teachers in order to form a strong support for each student on their caseload. They will also be responsible for ensuring that all students on their caseload are able to be successful in meeting our 6 yearly promotion requirements through data analysis and careful action planning.

In the team function, the teacher will be an active participant and accountable team member. They will engage in lively debates around planning, student learning outcomes and setting a school culture. Teams will be tasked with solving dilemmas as they appear at our school, and team members are the most critical problem-solvers. Team members should neither shy away from conflict nor accountability to results. The primary accountability of a team and its members is measured through student learning outcomes.
