Job Description: Speech and Language Pathologist
Reporting to: Director of Special Education
Bright Star Schools is seeking an exceptional and skilled SLP who has an unwavering belief that all students with diverse abilities can and will achieve at high levels. We seek an SLP who can support principals, teachers, and the Director of Special Education manage partnerships with students and their families to ensure that our students and school communities are successful.
Qualifications and Experience:
• California Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential or a Clinical or Rehabilitative Services Credential in Language Speech and Hearing.
• Successful manager of an urban speech and language therapy setting who has used structure and high expectations to drive student success
• Experienced SLP with demonstrated quantifiable and objective student performance gains with English Language Learners
• Ability to work with a variety of learning abilities, including those with special needs and low skill level in a various classroom settings
• Demonstrated ability to work well in a team, especially with parents and community members
• Analytical problem solver
• Basic understanding of data analysis
• Minimum three years of teaching and/or speech and language pathologist experience
Responsibilities:
Consults with teachers and parents regarding typical speech and language development, classroom modifications and/or accommodations, and assists in the referral process if necessary.
• Diagnoses speech and language disorders per IDEA and California Education Code guidelines.
• Evaluates, in conjunction with other professionals, as necessary, the effects of a speech, language or hearing disorder on a pupil’s educational performance and academic achievement.
• Provides intervention (either direct or on a consultative basis) that addresses individual goals and objectives directed toward academic success through remediation or compensation.
• For students with hearing impairments, provides training in effective use of residual hearing, skillful use of amplified sound, speech reading skills, and effective use of visual/environmental cues.
• Conducts ongoing evaluation for qualified students and makes periodic reports of progress, recommending adjustments in intervention program as necessary.
• Attends staffing and planning meetings for individual students, providing expertise as needed in the area of speech and language, as well as input on student performance and recommendations for intervention.
• Maintains appropriate documentation required by law (including, assessment reports, IEPs, registers, etc.). Writes legally defensible speech and language assessment reports.
• Attends regular team PLC meetings to coordinate services, discuss student cases and works with the team to ensure the timely completion of assessments and IEP meeting timelines.
• Provides professional development to teaching and administrative staff on an ongoing basis.
Organizational/Administrative:
• Report special education related statistics as they become available
• Inputs information related to service provision for the 310 and 311 report in Welligent
• Support the maintenance the confidential files for special education students
• Participate in determining appropriate classroom placement for incoming and transitioning students

Salary: Salary based on education and experience
