Roseville Joint Union High School District Job Description CAMPUS MONITOR Purpose Statement The position of Campus Monitor is done for the purposes of providing for the safety and welfare of students during non-classroom activities; minimizing the frequency and/or severity of harmful incidents, communicating observations and/or incidents that have a potential impact on the general well-being of students, school personnel, and/or visitors, and routine inspection of facility, grounds and restrooms. Essential Functions Provide school policy information to students, personnel and visitors, including information regarding enforcement processes and consequences, for the purpose of maintaining a secure school environment. Monitors students between assigned periods within a variety of school environments (e.g. restrooms, hallways, library, cafeteria, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of students. Prepares documentation (e.g. incident and activity reports, security logs, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information. Intervenes in potential conflicts for the purpose of minimizing disruptions of campus activities and/or injury to involved parties. Refers incidents to appropriate site personnel (e.g. injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring follow-up in accordance with administrative guidelines. Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel for follow-up action. Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of addressing immediate safety concerns. Routinely inspect and report campus conditions and restroom status throughout the day, retrieving and disposing of trash from grounds, restroom floors and sinks; checking and restocking restroom supplies (paper products, soap, etc.); and reporting to the day custodian, in a timely manner, all other cleaning and maintenance services that are needed, including stopped-up plumbing, vandalism, graffiti, etc. Assists other personnel as may be required in seeking, identifying and/or confiscating items placed on school property or in the possession of individuals in violation of law or policy, for the purpose of maintaining a safe school environment. Job Requirements – Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to communicate school policies and enforcement procedures to students, personnel and visitors in ways that promote cooperation; some need to upgrade skills due to changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include techniques for observing behaviors and anticipating or predicting potentially harmful actions. KNOWLEDGE is required to implement procedures, enforce rules, laws and policies, and prepare documentation. Specific knowledge is required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job, including assessing potentially harmful situations. ABILITY is required to work with a diversity of individuals. Problem-solving is required to analyze issues, create plans of action and reach solutions. Job Requirements – Minimum Qualifications The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: up to 35 pounds of occasional lifting, some standing and significant walking. Generally the job requires 35% standing, 60% walking and 05% sitting/kneeling/squatting. The job is performed under generally hazard free environment, in temperatures that are moderately varying, and in a clean atmosphere.
