POSITION DESCRIPTION: The purpose of the Teacher, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, is to improve students’ success in academics by addressing the unique needs of a Deaf or Hard of Hearing student by providing services in areas such as self-advocacy, auditory skills, pragmatic language social skills, equipment monitoring and listening tests to assist the student in having access to the district approved curriculum. Documenting teaching and student progress/activities, and outcomes; addressing students’ individual needs; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. Please see job description for a list of job functions and minimum qualifications. EXPERIENCE: Experience relevant to the duties set forth in the Teacher, CH/Deaf and Hard of Hearing job description will be considered when making the selection decision. EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university is required; master’s degree desirable. CREDENTIALS/CERTIFICATES/LICENSES: Possession of a valid California Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in a deaf and hard of hearing program. English Learner certification also required. Applicants who are applying for a valid credential or have not utilized their credentials within the last 39 months of employment in a school district must show verification of meeting the Basic Skills Requirement . Successful candidates will be NCLB compliant at the secondary level in Math, Science, English, and Social Science or become compliant within one year of employment.
