POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Riverside County Office of Education provides a uniform payroll system that serves over 55,000 school employees. District Fiscal Services provides payroll services, support and assistance to 21 school districts, 4 community college districts and several charter schools. A major function of the Payroll and Retirement units in District Fiscal Services is the payroll processing and reporting of taxable earnings to federal and state tax agencies as well as retirement reporting to the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS) and California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS). Among other duties, the job of the Senior Accounting Technicians is to ensure the accurate reporting of taxable and creditable earnings to the appropriate agencies, compliance with federal, state and retirement law, and supervision of assigned accounting technicians and senior accounting clerks. The Senior Accounting Technicians will assist in the preparation and presentation of workshops related to payroll and retirement reporting; assist in the analysis, interpretation and implementation of payroll and retirement circulars and directives; assist other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. The Senior Accounting Technicians will evaluate processes, recommend and implement changes to ensure efficiency and accuracy in the auditing and reporting of payroll and retirement records. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Four years of varied, responsible and successful experience in financial, statistical, or fiscal record keeping work. One year in a supervisory capacity is desirable. REQUIRED EDUCATION: Completion of at least one year (24 semester/36 quarter hours of course work) of approved college/university level accounting or business training including principles of accounting. One year of additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education.
