Mission:  

 Academy Of Media Arts is committed to creating an environment that merges science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) into a cultivating bridge for career development opportunities within the digital age.  

Vision:   

Academy Of Media Arts will expose youth to real world opportunities through project-based learning by providing educational and career development tools. More specifically, the inherent talent, potential, and enthusiasm of our youth will be nurtured through the infusion of new media arts and Common Core standards based education, serving as a vehicle to greater success in life 

 

Scope of work:  

The responsibilities of the AMA school leader, Pre-Launch, consist of the following:  

•         Charter Petition Approval Process

•         Development of Policies, Procedures, Practices

•         Development of Curriculum and Instructional Model

•         Recruitment

•         Outreach

The school leader fellow will work alongside AMA’s Chief Executive Officer, Dana Hammond, to implement the following: 

•         Create a launch calendar.  

•         Hire an instructional team.  

•         Lead the development of AMA’s curriculum in collaboration with the CEO. 

•         Manage the implementation and training of the AMA curriculum and/or designated curriculum that is aligned AMA vision. 

Attend intake meetings with investors, community leaders, parent committee, and business owners within AMA’s target community.   Become a thought partner with Mr. Hammond.

The school leader’s ability to communicate AMA’s mission and vision to various stakeholders will be of extreme importance. The school leader should have the ability to specifically communicate AMA’s niche market that focuses on New Media Arts, project based learning, and workforce development structure.  This includes the success of CGI’s New Media Arts Program 11-year history and its economic benefit to middle school and high school scholars as well as its baseline outcomes data that demonstrates scholars who attend AMA will acquire the necessary skills to become global-technical leaders. AMA believes not all scholars will be on one track to attend a four university. AMA tiered innovative leadership model details its goals and objects related to its cultural.  

 

Milestones 

•         AMA’s Petition Submission: August 27, 2018- August 29, 2019. 

•         Intake Meeting: Attend intake meeting with LAUSD after AMA submits its petition The in-take meeting will occur on August 28 (pending LAUSD confirmation)

•         New School Venture Fund:  Attend Community of Practice meetings

  • Fall Community of Practice: October 15th – 18th (location TBD)
  • Invent Field Trip (optional): February 5th – 7th (location TBD)
  • NSVF Summit 2019: May 7th – 9th (Oakland, CA)
  • Buick Institute training : three training for AMA’s instructional team: Spring 2019
  • Curriculum Instruction Steering Committee(CISC) leadership Summit: February 20, 2019- February 22, 2019. (Anaheim CA)

•            Create the Launch Plan:   AMA has developed an 18 month Strategic Community Outreach Plan that will provide our greatest opportunities for an impactful start-up. The Community outreach plan will be implemented April 2018 – October 2019. 

•         Neighborhood Council meeting: Present at neighborhood council meetings: West Adams and Baldwin Village Neighborhood counsel:

  • West Adams Neighborhood Council Meeting schedule: 3rd Monday’s, 6:30PM 
  • Baldwin Village Neighborhood Council Meeting schedule: 1st Saturday’s, 9:30AM; 2nd Wednesday’s, 7PM; 3rd Monday’s, 6:30PM  

 

         Donor pledge meetings: Attend two donor pledge meeting during the fall (meeting will occur between September November). 

         Learning Journey: Attend at least one learning journey from the three schools below: 

  • High Tech High, San Diego
  • Math and Science College Prep
  • USC College Prep (meeting will occur between September- October)

          Parent Committee meeting: Attend parent committee meetings: Parent meetings are outlined within the strategic community outreach plan. (Meetings are scheduled within twenty-four month outreach. You will only be required specific parent meetings)

         Completion of a training manual for all curriculum   

         Creating a professional development calendar for the 2018-19 school year

 

About AMA:  

AMA curriculum will be based in project based learning and we will implement other curriculums that are aligned with AMA school model, such as Da Vinci Schools and High Tech High.  Academy Of Media Arts will provide a setting where youth, regardless of their ethnic background, can thrive in school by closing the achievement gap experienced by children living in inner city communities with limited conceptual exposure.    

The curriculum used for our core instruction will be driven by the Common Core standards and the Next Generation Science Standards. To successfully plan and execute a culturally relevant project based learning experience, the curriculum will be created using the “Gold Standard” of planning and design, developed by the Buck Institute of Education. All courses will fulfill the AG requirements to ensure scholars are UC/CSU eligible.  

Combined with a unique character development program and an accredited new media arts program, scholars will not only enhance their academic knowledge and global awareness, they will be able to strengthen their character and develop tangible artistic skills.

AMA is scheduled to open its doors for the 2019-2020 school year with 125 ninth grade scholars. Compensation for the 2020-2021 school year will be $90,000.00.

 

AMA school leader will possess the following leadership characteristics
