JOB DESCRIPTION

INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT TEACHER


DEFINITION: Under the direction of the Director of Special Services, provides instruction to special education students individually and/or general classroom setting.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

· Provides direct instructional support to students with special needs, individually and/or general classroom setting.
· Provides consultation to staff and parents of special needs students.
· Conducts assessments, develops IEPs and participates in IEP meetings.
· Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:
· District standards and benchmarks.
· District core curriculum.
· Special education regulations.
· A variety of instructional strategies appropriate for different disability types.
· Successful collaboration and co-teaching strategies.

Ability to:
· Provide special education assessments.
· Write legally compliant and educationally meaningful assessment reports.
· Work in a collaborative relationship with parents, and general and special education staff members.
· Develop and implement a functional behavior plan.
· Provide staff development.

Education:
Appropriate California teaching credential.

          Speech Language Pathologists: serve as head teachers in our preschool classrooms. They apply evidence-based social-communication strategies to establish a language-rich learning environment and are instrumental in setting a positive climate for learning. They are responsible for developing, implementing and directing activities that support each child's language learning needs, as determined by IEP goals and objectives. Together with program support staff, they manage the collection of data, perform standardized and informal assessments, as needed, and periodically report progress made toward individual goals and objectives.
