One to One Instructional Aid / Paraprofessional at San Clemente Christian School
Requirements / Qualifications
Description of Basic Functions and Responsibilities: Assist classroom teacher(s) in support of an individual student who experiences academic, behavioral, and social challenges. Instructional support activities will include both “push-in” and “pull-out” methods depending on the task and need of the student. Provide family with continued services after the close of the school day. Duties include, but not limited to: - Work closely with classroom teacher to modify academic workload in a way that is appropriate for the student’s level of performance and abilities. - Assist implementing curriculum for assigned area(s) of instruction. - Shape student behavior through effective and consistent behavior management system. Provide appropriate interventions to redirect/modify behavior. - Provide feedback to support the development of positive self-esteem for the student. - Provide behavioral/social skills support, instruction, support during recess, lunch, transitions, field trips. - Work closely with parents, classroom teacher(s), and administration to develop and achieve goals set for the student. - Prepare materials for use in instructional activities. Gather appropriate resource information/materials. - Provide teacher(s), parents, and/or school administrator with relevant feedback and information on student progress through ongoing communication. -Participate in parent/staff meetings. - Accompany student to Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy appointments two days a week. - Support and assist student’s instructional goals as based on Student Support Team Meeting Plans and any other goals set by specified therapists. - Assists student with assigned work, answering questions, and reinforcing concepts through differentiation and modification. - Observe student behavior to identify potential problems and reports concerns to teacher, administration or parents, as appropriate.
Requirements: - Extensive knowledge of behavior management practices, implementation of strategies and techniques. ABA training preferred. - Experience working with students who experience physical, emotional, and social diversities. - Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Be well equipped with excellent knowledge of accurate English language and grammar. - Ability to modify kindergarten curriculum and lessons to the appropriate level of the student (with teacher support). - Ability to confidently and consistently navigate changing academic environment to suit the needs of the student. - Ability to learn methods and procedures to be followed in assigned instructional situation. - Ability to understand the needs of assigned student and to effectively relate to these needs in a learning situation. - Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action in the moment. - Ability to effectively supervise student in a variety of situations. - Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding learner privacy. - Maintain a high level of professionalism in contact with learner and surrounding students.
