About the Employer

We are a unified school district serving more than 16,150 students in grades K -12. We have thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, three specialized high schools, two alternative high schools and one K-8 school. We also offer a home schooling program, adult education courses and other unique programs to fit the needs of all students. Our school district employs approximately 1,100 certificated and nearly 900 classified employees. Antioch Unified School District is centrally located in the East Bay and provides ready access to scenic mountains, waterfronts, wine country, historical sites and the Pacific Ocean. ANTIOCH UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS TITLE: OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Assistant Director-Special Education, develop, implement and provide individual and group therapy to enhance fine motor, sensory motor and other skills and development among identified students with disabilities; evaluate and develop occupational therapy treatment plans in response to student needs and disabilities; provide consultation and training to teachers, staff, parents and others concerning the development of student motor skills and related programs. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Develop, implement and provide individual and group therapy to enhance fine motor, sensory motor and other skills and development among identified students with disabilities; establish and maintain treatment and therapeutic goals and objectives to improve student functioning and enhance learning. Evaluate and develop occupational therapy treatment plans, programs and sessions in response to student needs and disabilities; monitor, evaluate and adjust individual treatment plans and therapy activities in response to student needs and progress. Provide consultation and training to teachers, staff and parents concerning occupational therapy and related students, treatment plans, principles, theories, standards, guidelines, requirements, practices, procedures, and perceptual motor, fine motor, sensory and self-care programs. Administer appropriate assessments to determine area of dysfunction for occupational therapy referral; provide individual treatment to correct specific areas of sensory motor and fine motor dysfunction. Reassess sensory motor development and other identified developmental needs using a variety of tools according to established standards and procedures; advise parents concerning student progress, areas of concern and student support activities. Utilize and adapt various therapeutic tools, equipment and materials such as fine motor equipment, mats, bolsters and games. Compile information and prepare and maintain various records and detailed written reports concerning students, treatment plans, goals, objectives, progress, evaluations, discharges and assigned activities. Communicate with students, staff, faculty, outside agencies and others to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns; refer students and parents to appropriate services to enhance and assist with student development. Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a copier, computer and assigned software; drive a vehicle to conduct work. Conduct in-services or other training programs for District personnel concerning the role of occupational therapy as an educational service, normal sensory motor development related to learning, identification of sensory motor deficits, and activities to develop student motor skills. Provide input and recommendations concerning the development of the District’s occupational therapy program. Provide recommendations for discharging students from occupational therapy services as appropriate. OTHER DUTIES: Perform related duties as assigned. Practices, procedures and techniques involved in the development and implementation of treatment plans, programs and sessions for individual students according to student needs and disabilities. Child growth and developmental disabilities, diagnosis and syndromes and applicable treatment and techniques. Policies and objectives of assigned programs and activities. Skeletal anatomy, neuromuscular function and dysfunction. Operation of therapeutic and adaptive equipment. Kinesiology and occupational therapy modalities. Oral and written communication skills. Record-keeping and report writing techniques. Health and safety regulations. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. ABILITY TO: Develop, implement and provide individual and group therapy to enhance fine motor, sensory motor and other skills and development among identified students with disabilities. Identify and analyze areas of development and sensory motor dysfunction. Develop and implement treatment plans, goals and objectives to correct sensory motor dysfunction. Administer assessments to determine area of dysfunction for occupational therapy referral. Monitor, evaluate and adjust individual treatment programs and therapy activities in response to student needs and progress. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Operate a computer and assigned office equipment. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Meet schedules and time lines. Work independently with little direction. Plan and organize work. Prepare and maintain various records, reports and files. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy or related field and one year experience working with students with various disabilities in a rehabilitative setting. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid Occupational Therapist Certification issued by the American Occupational Therapy Certification Board. Valid State Occupational Therapist license.
