Basic Position Function
Performs accounting work of above average difficulty involving senior high school student organizations and a student store.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: |
Processes all State reports including sales taxes;
Receives, counts, and banks money; Maintains records of cash receipts and disbursements; Maintains journals and ledgers of financial transactions; Posts and balances ledgers; Balances accounts and takes trial balances, prepares balance sheet and profit and loss statement; Order, price and sell merchandise for profit; Checks invoices, warrants, purchase orders, discounts, account classifications and verifies receipts for merchandise; Prepares warrants for payment; Prepares various financial and statistical reports and statements; Develops and maintains Student Body Budgets; Closes year-end books and inputs new budget into district system, purging outdated files; Audits with outside auditor and district auditor; Organizes and staffs for freshman orientation; Supervises ticket, yearbook and other sales; Supervises and participates in the operation of a student store including ordering, shelving, selling and inventorying; Performs all bookkeeping activities related to student store operations; Types letters, memoranda and reports; may supervise student helpers; Operates a computer, typewriter, calculator and other standard office equipment; Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS: |
Experience:
Extensive experience maintaining double entry account books and coordinating varied and complex business activities. Education: Persons with the experience, knowledge and abilities, as stated, are considered to have the necessary education. *Alternate variations of education/experience may be considered by Personnel Commission staff as acceptable to qualify for participation in the examination process resulting in an eligibility list.

JOB COMPETENCIES: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: |
Knowledge of:
Methods and practice of complex financial recordkeeping, business office practices, budgeting and auditing procedures; principles of supervision. Ability to: Perform accounting work of above average difficulty using independent judgment and initiative; prepare accurate financial and statistical reports and maintain a complete set of double entry accounting records; communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; supervise the work of others; establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, administrators and parents; operate a computer, typewriter, calculator and other standard office equipment. |
