Definition
Under the supervision of the site administrator, provides an educational program for pupils in grades K,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 or a combination thereof, and assists in other school programs as assigned. Creates a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth. Establishes effective rapport with pupils’ to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further participation in the total school program, in accordance with each pupil’s ability and to meet the California State Standards. Establishes good relationships with parents and other staff members. Supervises instructional aides, student teachers, and parent volunteers when applicable. Native or near native Spanish speaker with the ability to fluently speak, read and write Spanish and English. Must meet all State and Federal compliance requirements.
Qualifications
Credential: Possession of a California Multiple Subject Credential with BCLAD or equivalent certification required.
Essential Job Functions
Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate teaching strategies and techniques to meet the needs of students. Demonstrate knowledge, skill and ability to assess the needs of students and to plan, prepare and present appropriate instruction for all students. Demonstrate ability to maintain an effective and orderly learning environment and possess the ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive relationships with staff, parents and students. Demonstrate support of grade level, school and district goals and objectives. Demonstrate cooperativeness in team planning and support team decisions. Seeks to improve professional competency through professional growth and keeps abreast of current instructional practices. Ability to utilize technology as a teaching tool and maintains systems of record keeping for short and long term evaluation of student progress. Demonstrates the ability to utilize a variety of appropriate classroom management techniques, including positive reinforcement of behavior and sets appropriate limits for student behavior. Demonstrates the ability to collaborate with grade level Spanish/English teachers in lesson planning and curricular decisions. Demonstrates the ability to collaborate with all Spanish/English program staff in program and curricular development.
Experience/Knowledge
Regular classroom teaching experience in grades K-8 preferred. Previous bilingual classroom teaching experience desirable.
