ABOUT THE JOB: Persons in these positions work 8 hours per day, 12 months per year at a high school campus. Under general supervision, to store, issue, and maintain a variety of athletic equipment and supplies and first aid supplies; to perform custodial duties in and around athletic and locker room facilities; and to perform related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
An athletic equipment attendant works under the immediate supervision of the plant supervisor; however, the attendant's work schedule and performance evaluation are prepared jointly by the plant supervisor and the administrator in charge of athletics.
BASIC FUNCTION: Receives, inspects, inventories, stores, issues, and maintains control of athletic equipment and uniforms; sorts and processes clothing for cleaning; repairs and maintains athletic equipment; prepares and selects clothing, equipment, and supplies for competitive events; assists in packing and loading equipment for athletic trips; cleans and maintains equipment storage rooms, exercise rooms, and locker rooms; cleans and disinfects athletic equipment; repairs lockers and latches; prepares fields, courts, pools, and gym for athletic activities; takes care of clean towel distribution and collection of soiled towels; assigns lockers; keeps inventories of supplies; keeps records of equipment and facilities; may assist trainer; may administer first aid for minor injuries; may direct student help; attends and assists at athletic events; and performs general custodial work during the summer.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent and one year of experience equivalent to full-time work with organized athletic activities. Experience repairing athletic equipment desirable. Part-time experience will be considered and adjusted appropriately. Any other combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.
SEX: Sex is a bona fide occupational qualification for this position because the person in the position works in and around the boys' locker room facilities.
CERTIFICATE: Must obtain a First Aid Certificate by the end of the probation period and maintain the certificate while employed in this classification.
A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE REQUIRES THE FOLLOWING
Knowledge of: Equipment, materials, and supplies used in physical education and athletic programs.
Ability to: Maintain and repair athletic equipment; perform general custodial cleaning; read and write English at a level required for successful job performance; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; direct the work of others; perform moderately heavy manual labor; and work cooperatively with others.
