ArtQuest Visual Arts is a successful and well-known part of the magnet program and has even greater potential to develop in many vibrant ways. ArtQuest is looking for an enthusiastic, innovative and visionary teacher who has the ability, motivation and work ethic to help make this happen. We are seeking a strong team member who has the propensity and ability to communicate clearly and professionally in general and to collaborate dynamically with the other AQ faculty. We are seeking someone with the goal of a long-term commitment and the dedication needed to help ArtQuest and ArtQuest Visual Arts continually evolve and thrive. The position requires a substantial depth and breadth of Visual Arts knowledge, experience and skills. The courses span the AQ Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced levels of video production and the levels are sequential and build upon one another. The curriculum includes: The study of the elements and principles of art and design and the inclusion of all five of the major arts education components addressed in the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) state standards, as well as “common core” connections to other disciplines and subjects. Technical and conceptual considerations and practices. Authentic assessment and in-depth critique of work. Film studies and film/video history and cultural context, understanding of different film genres, styles and purposes. Relationships and connections to higher education and career resources and options. The development of aesthetic awareness and perception. Writing scripts, artists’ statements and critical reviews, learning and using video/film vocabulary. Storyboard creation and development. Learning about and use of video-specific, industry-targeted software to create live action, animation, documentary, narrative and other approaches to moving imagery, with the goal of producing pieces that represent quality filmmaking.
Practicing and actively entering competitions and film festivals that offer age-appropriate categories. *****A degree in Video Arts Production, Filmmaking, Visual Arts or closely related field (Bachelor’s or above) and a valid California Teaching Credential are required. Will consider candidates eligible for Intern credential or appropriate CTE credential (Career Technical Education) based on applicable/pertinent professional experience, education or a combination of these. *Must complete Mandated Reporter Training prior to the 1st day of work. • Actively create and implement very high standards for him/her students and self.
• Collaborate actively and enthusiastically with other educators within and across AQ disciplines and program facets.
• Develop and implement innovative curriculum and instruction.
• Incorporate all five major arts education component strands of the California Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Content Standards.
• Implement and incorporate Common Core Standards, inter-disciplinary practices and approaches and the annual ArtQuest inter-disciplinary theme.
• Demonstrate expertise in using both traditional and innovative approaches and ideas in curriculum, instruction and related educational and arts concerns
• Provide detailed critical feedback and engage students in productive critique.
• Develop and use authentic assessment approaches with multiple measures of achievement, appropriate to the discipline and supportive of student learning.
• Possess and use the skills necessary to organize, manage and produce all aspects of high-level Video production and exhibition, including selection and ordering of pieces to show.
• Help build community and cohesive sense of purpose within the ArtQuest program and Video specialty, reaching out to students, other teachers, families, the arts and media community and the general community in varied and engaging ways.
• Participate actively in the ArtQuest recruitment, application and admissions process and other events of the program, which include such aspects as AQ Showcases, Outreach visits and performances at schools and other sites, AQ Shadowing, AQ Application review, Audition scheduling and implementation, all-ArtQuest program planning and implementation of other events, activities, etc.
* Areas of expertise and teaching ability to include all of the above and also the following:
• Strong knowledge of Visual/Film history and cultural context, including multicultural and contemporary works and genres.
• Awareness of and ability to locate and include pertinent, high quality guest presenters.
• Knowledge of and access to Video professional production sites, higher education settings, workshops, master classes, film festivals and other opportunities and sites for student enrichment field trips and other expanded experiences.
• Knowledge of institutions of higher education and relevant careers that might be good options for Video-interested students and the ability to help guide students in researching and choosing summer and post-high school educational programs pertinent to their interests, strengths and goals.
• Excellent presentation and recruitment abilities to inform the greater community about Video, Video education and ArtQuest Video Arts.
• Video educator with strong Video abilities demonstrated in his/her own work.
