Teacher, Thrival Academy: Oakland at Thrival World Academies
Requirements / Qualifications
Thrival World Academies is an emerging network of study abroad public high schools providing students from underserved communities access to education abroad through a program grounded in personalized learning and immersive education abroad. By building a national network of publicly funded, credit-bearing study abroad high schools, Thrival World Academies addresses the challenges of equity, accessibility, and scalability in study abroad for students from underrepresented communities. We believe that international education is central to what it means to be an educated person in the 21st century and strive to make it accessible to all students in America, regardless of race or class. In the fall of 2016, our flagship site opened in Oakland, CA to serve 11 high school juniors, in partnership with Oakland Unified School District (OUSD). In the 2017-2018 school year, we expanded to two schools; Thrival Academy: Oakland & Thrival Academy: Indy. Thrival Academy Oakland grew to serve 16 students from both 10th and 11th grade and Thrival Academy Indy launched with a cohort of 20 high school juniors in its’ first pilot year. Next year Thrival Academy Oakland will serve approx 40 students in Oakland and Thrival Academy Indy will serve 60 students throughout Indianapolis as a 1 year innovation school.
