INSTRUCTOR, VIDEO PRODUCTION – CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE)
King-Chavez Community High School

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The instructor will have the immediate responsibility for the implementation, management, and teaching of a curriculum which will qualify completing students for entry-level employment in the field of Video Production.
FUNCTIONS:
•Commits to honoring King Chavez’s Mission, Vision, Core Values, Commitments, and Indicators of Student Success.
•Instruct students in assigned vocational/ technical area(s) of Video Production such as: storyboarding, video editing, television production, video camera usage, video lighting techniques, and competencies of video production.
•Understand computer and video camera types, operation, care, terminology, and knowledge of audio equipment.
•Instruct students in how to use Mac OSX software, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Creative Suites, and Google Apps for Education.
•Align curriculum with core academic classes. Work in collaboration to develop cross-thematic projects with core academic classes.
•Responsible for teaching appropriate job-seeking and job-retention skills.
•Establish and maintain safety policies and procedures for classrooms and work sites.
•Evaluate students’ performance by assessing needs, testing skills and knowledge, and then communicating results to students.
•Develop and maintain up-to-date training and instructional plans for the students.
•Communicate effectively with counselors, administrators, parents, and staff concerning students’ progress and program needs.
•Evaluate, select, and develop a variety of appropriate instructional materials.
•Promote student and community wide awareness of CTE programs and recruit students.
•Guide students in making career-related decisions.
•Maintain a variety of complete and accurate records for necessary reports.
•May assist in the selection, supervision, and evaluation of assigned instructional aides.
•Maintain and update occupational skills, appropriate industry awareness, and community involvement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
SKILLS appropriate to the Video Production industry are required to perform multiple technical tasks. Occasionally updating skills in order to meet changing job conditions is required. Specific skills necessary to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: Successful instruction of students in the assigned area of vocational training and career development; effective communication skills including written and oral; and the ability to understand and interpret laws and regulations.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math including calculation of fractions, percents and/or ratios; interpret written procedures; write routine documents and speak clearly; and understand multiple-step instructions. Must have thorough knowledge of the subject area(s) appropriate for the class being taught; identify and demonstrate stages of video production. Knowledge of theatrical hardware and rigging, scenic painting, costuming, lighting principals and applications, lighting instruments and control, sound principals and application for the stage, sound equipment, microphones, and control, stagehand basics and safety, theatrical personnel, script reading and analysis, and stock scenery construction. Knowledge of approved and effective techniques of student supervision, motivation and discipline; effective student testing and evaluation methods and techniques; and knowledge or appropriate curriculum and instructional materials for assigned subject area(s).
ABILITY to give instruction in television and video techniques necessary for producing a variety of programs utilizing demonstrated knowledge in all stages of Video Production; effectively instruct students assigned in technical/vocational area(s) and career development skills; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties; establish criteria and evaluate students' progress; develop and maintain a variety of administrative records and prepare periodic and special reports as necessary; must be able to safely and effectively operate a variety of equipment appropriate for assigned instructional area(s); and meet the travel requirements from site to site.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; climbing and balancing; and stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Generally the job requires 20 percent sitting, 40 percent walking, and 40 percent standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations, a generally hazard-free environment, and in a clean atmosphere.
EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) years of work experience in the technical skills, trade, or vocations to be taught are required. One (1) of the three (3) years of the required experience must be within the last five (5) years.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree desired.
CREDENTIALS:
Possession of, or ability to obtain prior to employment, a valid California Designated Subjects Vocational Teaching Credential for the subject to be taught is required. (Refer to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing pamphlet for: Designated Subjects Vocational Teaching Credentials). CTEL certification or EL equivalent such as CLAD, BCLAD, or SDAIE must be completed during the first year of employment in this position or be part of a University credentialing program of study. You must provide copies of credentials as required for the position or provide evidence of qualifying for required credential with your application materials.
Valid California Driver's License required.
