ADULT SCHOOL GED / HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA TEACHER
DESCRIPTION
Substitute GED high School Diploma Teachers provide high school diploma, GED & or pre-GED instruction to classes or individual students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Instructs students by lecturing, demonstrating, and using audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations.
- Follows course objectives and outline for course of study.
- Keeps attendance records for time he/she is substituting.
- Maintains discipline in classroom.
- Must be able to adapt instructional techniques to meet the students' diverse needs.
- Follow relevant lessons and assign meaninful homework.
- Knows how to use a variety of computer software tools.
- Other duties may be assigned.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of Microsoft computer applications, including Microsoft Word.
- Ability to create an atmosphere in the classroom where students are encouraged to develop their full potential
- Ability to coummunicate with students in a warm, caring, considerate manner, with the ability to find a balance between professional distance and concern for individuals
- Ability to establish and maintain a cooperative rapport with other teachers, counselors, classified staff and administration
- Ability to organize classroom activities, maintain classroom order
- Ability to keep records and meet dealines in grade reporting, attendance reporting, etc.

The following teaching credentials authorizes teaching Adult Education GED/H.S.Diploma:
- Full-Time Adult Credential - Elementary and Secondary Basic Skills (includes basic education in grades 1-8):
√ Arithmetic
√ Reading
√ Individualized high school learning lab
√ G.E.D. / contract class settings
√ Citizenship
- The Single Subject Teaching Crdential authorizes the holder to teach the specific subject(s) named on the credential in deparmentalized classes, such as those in most middle schools and high schools, ingrades preschoolk K-12, or in classes organized primarily for adults:
√ English
√ Foundational-Level General Science
√ Foundational-Level Mathematics
√ Mathematics
√ Science: Biological Sciences
√ Science: Chemistry
√ Science: Geosciences
√ Science: Physics
√ Social Science
- Multiple or Single Subject Teaching Credential (a teacher authorized for multiple subject instruction may be assigned to teach in any self-contained classroom (preschook, K-12, or in classes organized primarily for adults).
- Elementary and Secondary Basic Skills Adult Credential with the English Learner (EL) Authorization and Cross-cultural, Language, and Academic Development (CLAD) Certificate
