Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District TEACHER: RESOURCE SPECIALIST JOB DESCRIPTION PRIMARY FUNCTION: To provide direct instruction to and coordinate services for students with exceptional needs enrolled in Resource Specialist Programs at assigned site(s). DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Student Services ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provides instructional services: a. Provides instruction and directs services for all students admitted to the Resource specialist Program on an individual or small group basis, either in a special education resource room or in a regular classroom; b. Assist regular classroom teachers in identifying those children who appear to have exceptional needs not met within the regular program; c. Assists special education staff in identifying those children who could benefit from the regular classroom program with support from the resource specialist; d. Assists school personnel in the screening process; e. Assists in the assessment of those children who are suspected of having learning problems and who have been referred to the Individual Education Program team; f. Serves as a member of the Individual Education Program team for those children who have needs requiring the resource specialist’s particular specialty and may serve for those students for whom he/she has performed and assessment/diagnostic function at other times as appropriate; g. At the secondary level, provides for career and vocational development and focuses on the attainment of minimum competencies by program clients; h. Evaluates and reviews student progress on a regular basis and at least annually, and facilitates the revision of the Individual Education Program as necessary; and i. Maintains Resource specialist Program records reflecting growth performance of each student enrolled in the program. 2. Provides consultant/coordinative services: a. consults with parents, regular classroom teachers, special education teachers and other specialists regarding students who have been admitted to the Resource Specialist program and students who may have learning problems; b. Organizes and distributes materials to be used by students in the resource room and in their regular classrooms; c. Coordinates special education services with the regular education activities in conjunction with the site administrator for each student enrolled in the Resource Specialist Program; d. Participates in the evaluation of the Resource Specialist Program; e. Attends special inservice training sessions conducted by the district or county; and f. coordinates inservice sessions or workshops for staff and/or parents. 3. Performs other duties/responsibilities appropriate to the staff needs of the site being served. 4. Other related special education duties as assigned. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessin and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems. 6. Assists students in developing habits that promote personal health, physical development and safety. 7. Advises and counsels students and parents in matters concerning student achievement, attendance and behavior. 8. Serves on district and school committees as required. 9. Participates in faculty meetings PTA meetings, and other community groups as requested. 10. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day. 11. Maintains professional competence through participation in inservice education activities and/or in self-selected professional growth activities. 12. Keeps abreast of the latest testing, teaching methodologies and practical applications. Applicants who hold an out-of-state teaching credential/certificate will be considered. Attach a copy of your out-of-state credential to your application. Intern-qualified candidates will also be considered. Non-credentialed applicants who are moved forward for the position and do not have a CTC educator page will be required to obtain a Certificate of Clearance (COC).
