JOB DESCRIPTION FOR:

CUSTODIAN/BUS DRIVER

 

JOB SUMMARY: Under direction, to supervise, and participate in the building custodial operations. Perform those custodial services required to maintain assigned buildings or areas in a clean, orderly and secure manner; to work and maintain floors; and to do related work as required.

 

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: Drives bus over designated routes, for field trips and for athletic events. Supervisors and participates in sweeping, mopping, stripping, and waxing of floors, dusting, and polishing furniture, washing windows, walls, and floors; disposing of rubbish; does minor building maintenance work and reports need for major repairs; requisitions custodian supplies and materials; receives and stores supplies and equipment; assists in school activities by setting up rooms for meetings and special activities; assists school staff in maintenance and custodial requirements; assists in developing work schedules; plans and controls use of budgeted funds.

 

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Drives school bus over designated routes according to established time schedules adhering to strict safety requirements. Washes, sweeps, polishes, refuels, performs safety checks during non-driving. Ability to read and write English at a level required for successful job performance and one year of experience in school custodial work. High school equivalency is desirable.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in school custodial work; ability to do simple building maintenance and repair work; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to keep simple records; ability to operate heating and ventilating equipment; ability to direct and supervise the work of others; ability to operate within an established budget; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, teachers, students, and the public.

 

Knowledge of safe driving practices, operation of buses and the laws governing the buses use. Ability to maintain order among school children while driving.

 

LICENSES: Valid Class II and III California drivers license, school bus drivers

certificate and standard Red Cross certificate.

Two Letters of Recommendation, Resume, Good driving record, must currently possess or obtain a Bus Drivers Class B driver's license within 90 days of hire. Some experience with maintenance required. District will train. District will pay for bus driver training.
