Old Orchard School has an immediate opening for an exceptional and experienced Spanish teacher for Grades 6-8. Candidates should have a gift for making foreign language acquisition a lasting learning adventure that extends into high school, and beyond, as well as and the ability to impart an appreciation for and an understanding of the lives and cultures of Spanish speaking people in the US and abroad. Old Orchard takes Spanish seriously. It is taught daily as a core academic subject in GRs K-8, and our graduates typically place into Spanish II or III honors when they start high school. Our ideal candidates will have a relevant teaching credential and/or graduate degree, and substantial experience teaching Spanish in private or public schools at the Middle School or younger high school levels. Candidates must be native speakers or be demonstrably fluent in Spanish. While they needn't be perfectly fluent in English, they must also have a strong command of both spoken and written English, allowing them to communicate comfortably and professionally with colleagues and parents. They must also be able to develop and adapt their curriculum to meet the needs of students at different skill levels. A strong understanding of and ability to use ed tech tools in the classroom is a huge plus. Old Orchard is a small, well-established private school with a warm and collegial school community. All staff and faculty members contribute to the wider school community, and the ability to work and communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and school parents is a high priority. Old Orchard School is seeking a full-time Spanish teacher for Grades 6-8 to begin September 2018.
Candidates must be fluent Spanish, have at least three years experience teaching Spanish in public or private schools, and hold a relevant teaching credential and/or master's degree. Additionally, candidates should have a proven ability to write engaging, lively, and effective curriculum that offers insightful instruction on Spanish-speaking cultures and countries, and incorporates meaningful assessments. Our Middle School Spanish program is advanced - the majority of our graduates place into Spanish II or III Honors in high school. However, candidates must also be able to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students who have had less exposure to the subjects.
Ideal candidates will have experience blending technology, specifically iPads, into their curriculum - and be eager to be part of a warm, fun, and friendly teaching crew. Old Orchard is a small, well-established private school, and our average teacher tenure is 15 years. We value smart, energetic, and flexible people who enjoy being part of the wider school community.
