Math Teacher

The Academy of Our Lady Peace is seeking a Mathematics teacher who wants to make a positive impact on the lives of students, especially young women, who in many STEM fields are underrepresented.  We are seeking visionary teachers who will help implement our vision of becoming the leading high school for young women in Southern California.

The classroom teacher both models and communicates the school mission, philosophy, and core values while modeling behavior that inspires excellence, helping students grow to become young women of heart, faith, and courage in the spirit of the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Essential Responsibilities

Use a cross-curricular, transdisciplinary approach and actively seek collaborative approaches with teachers within and outside the department.

Is proactive in setting up a student-centered classroom environment that goes beyond the lecture/regurgitation format.

Embraces a growth mindset approach to education, helping students develop through trial and error.

 Understands that not all students need the same thing and actively seeks to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.

Pursues professional growth opportunities and returns to share knowledge and methodology with faculty and staff wherever relevant.

Adapts to the changing needs of students and use of space and time in ways that will help prepare students for a changing, evolving future.

Proactively seeks innovative techniques related to methodology, curriculum, assessment, use of data and professional growth and brings a positive attitude toward experimentation and modification of “traditional” teaching techniques.

Works collaboratively with colleagues.

 Participates actively in the life of the school community in a manner which supports and promotes the mission and core values of the Academy of Our Lady of Peace.

Seeks to create connections with members of the business/technology fields and with institutions of higher learning to provide unique learning opportunities for students.

Administrative Responsibilities

Effectively manages instructional time and student behavior

Plans diverse lessons that ensure student comprehension of learning outcomes

Uses diverse assessments that capture student comprehension of content in a variety of ways

Records assignments in LMS in a timely fashion

Communicates with department chairs, academic support, personal counselors, students and parents in a timely fashion when students are at risk academically or personally

Cooperates with appropriate personnel (e.g., Assistant Principals, Attendance Officer) in enforcing school policies, rules and regulations. This includes but is not limited to the following:

 

  • student absence policy
  • student appearance code
  • student tardy policy

 

Participates in activities, workshops and meetings as required Fulfills duties and assignments in a punctual manner. This includes but is not limited to the following:

 

  • arrival/departure on campus and to school functions as required faculty substitute procedure
  • grades and progress reports
  • notification of Main Office of departure/return during school day proctor duties
  • school services
  • Supervision duty
  • Assists in maintaining a safe, clean and friendly campus environment
  • monitors appropriate student use of facilities
  • monitors student behavior
  • Cooperates with and supports the Administration
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and Assistant Principal
  • Provides appropriate instruction in specified curriculum and instructional feedback Effectively monitors and evaluates student performance
  • Maintains professional standards within the educational environment
  • Fulfills professional growth expectations

 


Qualifications

  • Bachelors in subject area

  • Prefer 3+ years teaching Science at a high school level

  • Teaching credentials

The Academy of Our Lady of Peace School, which includes grades 9-12 and enrolls 750 students (all girls) is a unique and empowering experience for young women. The mission of the school emphasizes the importance of creating exceptional future female leaders with the inclusion of a Catholic identity. We seek enthusiastic faculty that fosters a desire lifelong learning, comfortable with collaboration and the utilization of technology and innovation. The preferred candidate will have a depth of content knowledge that equips them to teach in low/high-level math. The assignment is based on the needs of the department, as such, flexibility is a must Qualifications: Experience with AP Calculus and Geometry is preferable. Ability and interest in teaching Economics in addition to math assignment. A degree and a teaching credential in Math plus three years of teaching experience. Open to working with a new math credentialed teacher if they are the right fit. The ability to passionately and effectively teach female high school students. A strong and sincere commitment to professional development both in pedagogy and content area High standards and high expectations for students Commitment to being a positive and contributing member of the professional community A love of children, a passionate commitment to math, technology and innovation, and a desire to work with all types of learners Extraordinary communication and presentation skills A proficiency in the use of technology A desire to work in a highly collaborative environment Application Process: Submit a cover letter, resume, three references, and California teaching credential electronically to this site.
