Under the direction of the Principal, the Music Teacher will develop in each pupil an appreciation of the art of music as part of general culture; teach techniques of vocal and/or instrumental music expression; discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of music; develop knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music. Teach skills in music appreciation, harmony, and explorations in music, and/or choral music to 6-8 students. Utilize repertoire of various types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils. Indicate each student's progress in music knowledge and skills by report cards. Plan, rehearse and direct pupils in musical programs for school and community. Apply knowledge of district procedures and limitations set on performances. Instruct students in citizenship, basic communication skills and other general elements of the curriculum. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and musical performances. Maintain professional competence through participation in in-service educational activities provided and supported by the District.
