JOB SUMMARYUnder the general supervision of the  Early Learning Manager, the Early Literacy Site Supervisor (ELSS) is responsible for ensuring that the Early Literacy and Math program is effectively implemented at one or more program sites throughout the county of Orange which serve children 0 – 5 years of age and their families. The ELSS will offer programs to help prepare pre- kindergarten children and their families for school, while focusing on literacy and math teaching methods. Community resources and referrals will also be offered to the families through this program. Additionally, the ELSS will be responsible for supervising the day-to-day participation of AmeriCorp Members and for supporting THINK Together’s Early Literacy and Math milestones by participating in (but not limited to) the following activities; Read for the Record, Reach Out and Read as well as events throughout the county or Orange. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate the implementation of the Early Literacy and Math Program for children 0 – 5 years of age and their families at assigned program sites throughout the county of Orange.
  • Conduct large (up to 20 children) and small group (about 5-8 children) lessons utilizing THINK Together’s Early Literacy and Math curriculum and lesson plans as presented.
  • Model high quality child development techniques and teaching methods.
  • Insure that the center-based program environment is set up and ready in an accessible and conducive manner in order to optimize participants’ learning.
  • Being  fully prepared for lesson plans prior to participant’s arrival.
  • Arrange for all AmeriCorps Members to be prepared for their daily assignment.
  • Collaborate with assigned host site administration (school principal or other) in order to implement program with minimal disruption while meeting the objectives and goals of program as well as insuring open lines of communication.
  • Supervise and coach a team of full-time AmeriCorps members insuring that each member’s strengths are utilized to their fullest potential and that each member is receiving optimal professional development during their time of service.
  • Track and record AmeriCorps attendance.
  • Insure that all participant assessments and evaluations are conducted, collected and that data is entered (if necessary) in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assess and prioritize parent/child needs related to literacy, math, health and wellness.
  • Collect and enter participant attendance according to set due dates.

 Other Functions and Responsibilities

  • Actively participate with ideas and feedback during planning sessions geared towards the review and development of program curriculum and lesson plans.
  • Participate in all program participant recruitment efforts as well as overseeing that enrollment occurs in an accurate and timely. 
  • Maintain and accurate inventory of program supplies and materials as well as submitting inventory detail as requested.
  • Purchase preapproved program supplies and materials as needed abiding by all THINK Together set policies and procedures.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents to obtain information to better serve families and maintain program quality.This includes but is not limited to the distribution of programmatic materials and event announcements.
  • Encourage parents to attend and participate in workshops, meetings and advisory committees.
  • Actively link parents/families and support them in their interaction with outside services as provided by ELP Leadership Staff.
  • Facilitate workshops on early literacy strategies for parents as needed.
  • Discuss all AmeriCorps concerns with the Early Learning Manager immediately in order to seek guidance.
  • Collaborate with assigned community partners to deliver Early Literacy and Math programs.
  • Maintain accurate/detailed records, facilitate meetings, and document referrals. This includes but is not limited to attendance sheets and enrollment packets.
  • Maintain confidential records for each family as assigned.
  • Act as a role model for the communities assigned, fostering professionalism and leadership qualities while always upholding THINK Together’s mission and values in positive regard.
  • Translate for non-English speaking parents; and, assist parents with application for service as needed
  • Maintain compliance with THINK Together and District policies and procedures.
  • Participate in THINK Together trainings and meetings as requested; May be required to facilitate workshops.
  • Works with Fund Development department to coordinate site visits for volunteers, community leaders, school administrators and funders.
  • Assists with volunteer orientations and works with the Volunteer Department to recruit new volunteers.
  • Nurtures and builds strong relationships with volunteers to develop good communication for accountability and long-term commitment to volunteering.
  • Implements the safety plan at the site.
  • Implements other human resource policies and procedures.
  • Attends regularly scheduled meetings and other meetings and trainings as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required in child development, education, human development or similar
  • Proof of valid driver’s license and automobile insurance
  • Familiar with the culture and customs of the clients with whom s/he will interact
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required by activities of the program
  • Must be able to travel to various site location, off-site staff development trainings and events
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook  to ensure appropriate reporting and tracking
  • Must pass Live Scan (fingerprinting), Background Check, and Tuberculosis Test

 

  • ·         Must have at least one year in a supervisory or leadership position
  • ·         Previous classroom experience with children 0 – 5 years of age is required

Associate Teacher Permit ** Can acquire upon showing proof of requirements 12 ECE Units Completed At least 50 days of experience in the field within 2 years (3 hours per day)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Supervise children in all activities, in the classroom, on the playground, during snack time, and on field trips. • Assist with planning, preparing and implementing a variety of activities to meet the needs of preschool-aged children. • Direct group activities with students as assigned. • Participate with children and encourage their involvement in activities. • Observe and redirect student behavior according to approved procedures. • Assist children with washing as needed; assist children with toileting, changing those who have experienced toileting accidents; assist students in developing self-help skills. • Assist with preparing instructional materials as directed by the supervisor. • Assist students in developing language skills. • Maintain a caring, clean, safe, sanitary and orderly classroom environment.
