Requirements / Qualifications

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION • Valid California SB 2042 Teaching Credential (or equivalent) • Graduate Degree or National Board Certification preferred • Teaching experience in a workshop, looping environment serving diverse student populations with a variety of learning styles • Ability to use discretion and good judgment when dealing with confidential and sensitive information • Bilingual (Spanish) highly desirable • Current First Aid & CPR Certification required • Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal and team building skills • Ability to work independently and as part of a grade-level and school-wide team • Efficient multi-tasking and time management skills • A strong commitment to ongoing personal learning and growth • Passion and commitment to working in a diverse school environment and ensuring that students from different backgrounds have the same high quality educational opportunities • Strong interpersonal and team building skills • Excellent organization skills and consistency in meeting deadlines

Our OCS-South location in Pasadena, CA serves 250 students in K-4, growing to a K-5 school in FY2020-21. We are recruiting for a 4th grade Teacher at our OCS-South location. Learn more online at: www.odysseycharterschool.org POSITION OVERVIEWS The TK-8 Teachers at Odyssey Charter Schools develops, conducts, monitors and continuously improves a learning environment which facilitates students’ academic and socio-emotional growth and development. Teachers will develop lessons that meet California State Standards, and honor each child’s learning style and preference and relies on a constructivist approach to learning. TK-8th GRADE TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Curriculum and Instruction • Plan, implement and instruct developmentally appropriate activities to promote overall academic and emotional growth of students reflective of our school’s vision, mission and charter • Utilize California Common Core Standards to develop classroom curriculum aligned with OCS philosophy • Assess and monitor student achievement and growth utilizing school assessment tools • Modify teaching practices as needed per classroom assessments and individual child needs • Develop and monitor students’ Individualized learning Plans • Ensure all student needs are being met and if needed meet with the Inclusion Specialist and/or Principal • Review, understand, and commit to OCS policies, procedures and charter • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned Social and Emotional Development • Establish and foster safe and nurturing classroom learning environment • Utilize appropriate resources, tools, and strategies to ensure the social-emotional growth and well being of students • Support and motivate students toward positive goals, to understand and manage emotions, handle the emotions of others, and to build positive relationships • Enhance the problem solving and decision-making abilities of students, improve their relationship building capacity, and maximize their potential in school Collaborations & Communications • Collaborate with colleagues to submit lesson plans, assessment data, progress reports, narratives, and other documentation as requested to supervisor in a timely manner • Effectively communicate with parents on an ongoing basis via classroom newsletters, e-mails, or teacher website and blog • Engage in meaningful professional development activities • Plan and participate in OCS Community Events • Meet professional obligations though efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and coordinating activities • Maintain high expectations and accountability for results • Model professional behaviors and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the broader community.
