Requirements / Qualifications

The Vacancy: There are two 10 months, full-time permanent vacancies in the Transportation Department. The eligibility list established from this recruitment will also be used to fill future vacancies and Substitute/Temporary positions for up to six months. The Position: Under general supervision, to drive a school bus over designated routes in transporting school children; to do general unskilled maintenance work on buses; and to do related work as required. Drives a school bus daily, or as assigned, over a designated route in conformity with an established time schedule, picking up and discharging school children; escorts children across streets and stops traffic as necessary; transports children and teachers on field trips to various locations; maintains order among the children on the bus, following District policies regarding the disciplining of children and contact with parents and other citizens; cleans, sweeps, and maintains interiors of buses.

Required Qualifications: One year of experience in the operation of a bus or successful completion of District-approved training for certification as a school bus operator. An A or B (with passenger and air brake endorsements) California operator’s license issued by the Dept. of Motor Vehicles; valid California School Bus Certificate. To be considered for a permanent position, must have a Transit Type 1 school bus certificate with automatic transmission and air endorsements. Valid medical Exam Certificates as required by District Policy or legal statute; valid First Aid Certificate which complies with V.C. 12522 © if First Aid test is waived at CHP; qualify and maintain insurability by the District liability insurance carrier’s standards; compliance with both pre-employment and continues drug-free status is required, in accordance with Federal law. Holders of Type 2 School Bus Certificate may be considered for substitute driver pool. Selection Procedure: The selection process will consist of a written exam and a qualifications appraisal interview (each weighted 50%).
