Definition: To lead and participate fully in a variety of skilled craft work in the maintenance, repair, construction and upkeep of skilled craft work in five building maintenance trades, and to do other work as may be required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Perform skilled maintenance, repair, replacement and construction work in all of the basic building trades such as carpentry, cabinetry, heating and refrigeration, electrical, master clock/clock and bell systems, fire alarm initiation and signaling systems, intercommunication systems, security systems, locksmith, glazing, masonry, painting and plumbing, inspect and direct work of helpers, plan and lay out assigned task; prepare estimates of labor and material costs for jobs; shall prepare and maintain records, determine necessary materials and supplies needed and requisition as needed, check operation of new equipment prior to delivery and use; see that tools and equipment used in the trade are properly used and cared for; analyze problem areas and determine courses of action necessary for the installation, maintenance, or repair of district buildings, make changes to and create new diagrams, blueprints, plans and rough drawings as necessary; write specifications for equipment and projects; train others in trade maintenance and repair or in the performance of skilled trade duties; examine work sites for needed repairs and maintenance; recommend priorities for repair and/or maintenance projects; advise on projects performed by outside contractors, volunteers and students; as assigned, positions are expected to perform tasks in other maintenance as a helper of independently.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: Method, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in the building trades, including carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, master clock/clock and bell systems, fire alarm initiation and signaling systems, security systems, data, heating and air conditioning, locksmithing, masonry and glazing work; electronics, schematics and logic diagrams; Building plans and blueprints; Safe working methods, practices and procedures; Laws applicable to construction and layout requirements; Safe driving practices.
Physical Ability to: Read handwritten or typed documents and instructions; To conduct verbal conversation in English; To hear normal range verbal conversation; To sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend and walk; To climb slopes, stairs, steps, ramps and ladders; To lift/carry up to ten (10) pounds frequently and fifty (50) pounds occasionally; To work in a safe and effective manner at various elevated heights, and in restricted spaces; To demonstrate manual dexterity necessary to perform fine maintenance procedures and operate both manual and power hand tools in a safe and effective manner; To operate in a safe and effective manner a variety of powered and manual equipment commonly found in janitorial and custodial services; To operate office machines and equipment in a safe and effective manner; To operate a motor vehicle in a safe and effective manner.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade; Five (5) years of experience in general construction and maintenance and work, including extensive knowledge of three or more skilled maintenance trades; A valid California Driver's license.
