Clinical Therapist, Special Education
  

Description of Position:

Under the general supervision of the Director IV, Special Education and CUSD Mental Health Coordinator, provide a full range of mental health services to children grades K-12, including individual, group, family counseling and working with school staff to create and implement therapeutic interventions for the purposes of fostering better mental health and positive learning experiences for all students.

Requirements:

  • Training and experience in the design and implementation of behavior interventions
  • Experience identifying the behavioral health needs of students, developing therapy goals and objectives for implementation through an individual therapy plan
  • Possess an extensive knowledge of a variety of forms of intervention and prevention models for individual, group and family therapeutic settings
  • Provide positive interventions for students with emotional, social, psychological and behavioral challenges
  • Consult with Mental Health Coordinator, school psychologists, school site administrator and staff, district administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals and parents/guardians regarding student mental health needs
  • Provide individual and group therapy/counseling services to students
  • Provide family therapy/counseling services
  • Provide district approved parenting program to parents one evening a week
  • Provide recommendations for additional or alternative strategies to teacher age-appropriate and functional replacement behaviors to students
  • Monitor student behavior
  • Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients’ treatment
  • Act as client advocates in order to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations
  • Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge
  • Collaborate with other staff members to perform clinical assessments and develop treatment plans
  • Exhibit positive rapport with students
  • Counsel family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with and supporting their student
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs and clients progress in resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives
  • Possess extensive knowledge of special education practices and legal guidelines
  • Collaborate and communicate regularly with IEP team and/or case carriers when planning treatment objectives
  • Attend IEP and inter-departmental meetings for students receiving counseling services
  • Ability to be contacted and communicate via multiple methods (phone, email, text) during the work day and after hours (for emergency purposes)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Professional Requirements:

  • Valid License by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage Family Therapist
  • Valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Psychology or School Social Work or School Counseling
  • Master’s degree or higher from an accredited university
  • Three years’ experience in providing mental health therapy services to student in special education or counseling and guidance support in a California school district, county office of education or county mental health authority
  • Three years’ experience in the behavioral health plan process including direct services, developing and monitoring behavioral support plans, treatment plans, monitoring progress and termination of services
  • Experience providing training to parents, school district staff and/or community-based organizations

Salary:  The current range for this position is $84,029 - $103,162 for 185 days of duty.
